Responsibilities Mortgage Underwriter Responsiblities - Underwriter completes a thorough analysis of loan files to determine compliance with company, investor, and FHA/VA guidelines. - Underwrites the entire credit package and collateral for residential mortgage loans and ultimately ensures an “investment” quality loan product. - Checks accuracy of all calculations and data integrity. Completion of all required underwriting worksheets found in Fast Trac 360 Resource Center. - Assists with the training of new underwriters. - Recommends the loan disposition to underwriting manager for loan amounts in excess of authority limitation. - Maintains company standard for Underwriter productivity level, and complies with company policy of 48 hour underwriting turnaround time and 24 hour turnaround time for clearing conditions. - Strives to meet 3 Underwriting decisions/day within allotted time - Communicates decision on loans to appropriate parties both verbally and in writing. - Maintains underwriting activity logs and provides monthly underwriting report to underwriting manager. - Available to processors and correspondents for general Underwriter guideline interpretations and questions on specific loan files. - Responds to post closing reviews and audits in a timely fashion. - Performs related duties, as directed by Underwriter or Operations Manager. Qualifications Mortgage Underwriter Qualifications - Minimum three years of mortgage underwriting experience, with solid working knowledge of underwriting guidelines. - Experience Underwriting private investor and private mortgage insurance guidelines. - Strong interpersonal-communication and business-relationship skills. - Detail oriented with strong organizational and follow-through skills. - Excellent analytical, written communication and verbal communication skills. - Technologically proficient. - Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent professional experience. SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES Responsibilities for underwriting and review activities of all types of consumer loan products to include real estate secured loans in accordance with established bank guidelines, State and Federal regulations and Fair Lending practices. Communicates with originating Loan Officers requests for additional information, final loan decisions, recommends alternative loan structure and/or products. Provide lender support to include interpretation of bank loan policy and procedures. About the role The Underwriting Assistant plays a critical role in supporting the underwriting process by delivering high-quality, efficient service to both internal and external clients. This position partners closely with Program Series Underwriters and brokers to ensure accurate and timely policy processing, while also serving as a mentor and subject matter expert within the team. What you'll do - Collaborate with Underwriters to quote, bind, and issue policies and endorsements - Maintain and strengthen relationships with brokers - Prepare and review policy files and documentation for accuracy and completeness - Request and verify Broker of Record letters and other underwriting documentation - Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) - Prepare policies for issuance using the appropriate Policy Administration System (PAS) - Lead or assist in PAS testing and review initiatives in collaboration with management - Participate in special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned Qualifications - Experience in the commercial insurance industry and regulatory environment. - 2+ years minimum directly supporting commercial lines underwriters. - Bachelor's degree; OR 4+ years of experience in insurance underwriting. - Working knowledge of PDF, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. - Ability to travel up to 10% of the year. - Experience in the commercial insurance industry and regulatory environment.
