Duties & Responsibilities: The Animal Care and Use Program Operations Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations governing the humane care and use of animals in research. Key responsibilities include: - Supervising IACUC administrative staff. - Overseeing the protocol submission process, managing protocol reviews (and serving as a backup when needed), and acting as a liaison between researchers and IACUC reviewers. - Driving process improvements by collaborating with the IACUC administrative staff to manage and evaluate change requests. - Overseeing the operations related to program reviews and facility inspections. - Managing and overseeing the administration of training programs. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU. Only applicants who do not require current or future sponsorship for employment will be considered - Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., animal science, biology, regulatory affairs) is required. Advanced degree or certification (e.g., CPIA) preferred. - Experience: At least 1 years of experience in IACUC administration is preferred. Experience in managing or supervising staff is highly desirable. - Skills: - Strong organizational and leadership abilities. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Proficiency in IACUC management software and protocol tracking systems. - Familiarity with federal, state, and institutional regulations concerning animal research. Preferred Qualifications - Experience supervising and mentoring IACUC administrative staff, fostering high performance, meeting deadlines, and supporting their professional growth. - Strong work ethic with a consistent attendance record. - Proven ability to identify, analyze, and resolve potential issues effectively. - Demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals at all levels in a respectful and supportive manner.
