Role Description Improvix Technologies is seeking a Data Governance Lead to support a maturing enterprise data program. This role drives the development, implementation, and sustainment of data governance practices across a cross-functional environment. The ideal candidate combines hands-on governance execution, strong communication and presentation skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with data stewards, technical teams, and business stakeholders. You will partner closely with data architects, stewards, and product teams to build and maintain the organization’s data governance framework, data catalog, data quality practices, and metadata management standards. This role requires someone who is organized, proactive, and capable of translating complex technical concepts into accessible, mission-focused insights. - Lead the development, maintenance, and execution of the organization’s data governance framework, including policies, processes, and standards. - Build, maintain, and expand the enterprise data catalog (Alation), including onboarding datasets, metadata, lineage, and steward assignments. - Partner with data stewards and technical owners to identify data assets, define ownership, and improve governance maturity. - Document and maintain data lineage across business, technical, and system layers. - Support and measure data quality initiatives, identify gaps, and implement improvements. - Facilitate governance meetings, Agile ceremonies, and stakeholder engagements. - Prepare and deliver clear, effective presentations and demos for both technical and non-technical audiences. - Identify and mitigate data-related risks, ensure compliance with internal governance standards, and support strategic data initiatives. - Collaborate within a cross-functional team environment, offering governance expertise while adapting to evolving program needs. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in data management, data science, information systems, computer science, or related field. - 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or metadata management. - Proven experience creating and operationalizing data governance frameworks and best practices. - Hands-on experience managing a data catalog (Alation strongly preferred). - Familiarity with Agile environments and participation in planning, stand-ups, and sprint demos. - Demonstrated ability to present and communicate effectively with stakeholders at multiple levels. - Ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive tasks with minimal oversight. - Strong documentation, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills. Requirements - Experience with Alation catalog administration, onboarding, metadata curation, and stewardship workflows. - Familiarity with Databricks Unity Catalog, Azure data services, or similar data platforms. - Experience supporting enterprise data strategies or data modernization initiatives. - Knowledge of data architecture principles and design patterns. - Industry certifications such as CDMP or DAMA (nice to have, not required). • Design, develop, and optimize data infrastructure (pipelines, applications, data stores etc) to facilitate data movement, transformation, storage, and delivery across a diverse and growing set of sources and sinks • Architect sophisticated data models that ensure high performance, data integrity, and ease of use for downstream consumers • Proactively identify opportunities for system improvements, manage your own workflows, and execute projects from conception to deployment with minimal oversight • Serve as a bridge between technical and non-technical teams, translating stakeholder needs into tangible data solutions and actionable business insights • Partner closely with teams across the organization to understand data requirements, provide technical guidance, and ensure data accessibility • Maintain high standards for code quality, workflow efficiency, and data quality, keeping principles like extensibility, scalability, efficiency, etc in mind

• You advise clients on the design of modern business intelligence and data platform solutions • You take responsibility for your own projects and actively contribute your ideas.

• Develop efficient and scalable data extraction methodologies to retrieve data from diverse sources, such as databases, APIs, web scraping, flat files, and streaming platforms. • Design and implement robust data loading processes to efficiently ingest and integrate data into the latest data warehousing technology, ensuring data quality and consistency. • Develop and maintain staging processes to facilitate the organization and transformation of raw data into structured formats, preparing it for downstream analysis and reporting. • Implement data quality checks and validation processes to identify and address data anomalies, inconsistencies, and integrity issues. • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in data extraction and loading processes, optimizing overall system performance and data availability. • Ensure adherence to data security and privacy standards throughout the data extraction and warehousing processes, implementing appropriate access controls and encryption mechanisms. • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of data extraction and warehousing processes, including data flow diagrams, data dictionaries, and process workflows. • Mentor and support junior data engineers, providing guidance on best practices, technical design, and professional development to elevate overall team capability and performance. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, data analysts, software engineers, and business stakeholders, to understand their data requirements and provide efficient data engineering solutions. • Stay updated with the latest advancements in data engineering, data warehousing, and cloud technologies, and proactively propose innovative solutions to enhance data extraction and warehousing capabilities.
