Role Description Clever is on a mission to connect every student to a world of learning. As the leading identity platform for education, more than 111,000 schools worldwide use Clever to power secure digital learning experiences. The Infrastructure team handles platform engineering at Clever, building and evolving the internal developer platform that engineering teams use to build, deploy, operate, and monitor Clever’s products. As a member of the Infrastructure team, you’ll create self-service “golden paths” and shared tooling that help teams ship and iterate quickly and safely, while meeting reliability, security, and compliance expectations. You will partner with engineering teams to understand friction points, close gaps in automation and workflows, and continuously improve the developer experience and operational effectiveness across the organization. Responsibilities - Act as technical lead for, and contribute meaningfully to, medium and large projects. - Build and evolve an internal developer platform with clear self-service workflows ("golden paths"). - Define and maintain standards, templates, and automation for quick and safe shipping. - Collaborate with product engineering teams to understand friction points and iterate on platform capabilities. - Provide observability primitives (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting) for effective service operation. - Implement multi-region capabilities, including repeatable environment provisioning and resiliency patterns. - Lead resiliency initiatives and implement reliability engineering practices to meet or exceed 99.98% uptime. - Model and reinforce Clever's engineering culture and practices. Current and Upcoming Projects - Migrating services and compute from AWS ECS to AWS EKS and EC2. - Evolving our internal developer platform to support that shift. - Expanding Clever globally by deploying regionally replicated infrastructure. Qualifications - 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer including backend work. - Experience with Kubernetes is required. - Experience with Go is useful but not required. - Experience with AWS EKS is useful but not required. - Direct experience using a cloud provider (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure). - Experience with key AWS Technologies (ECS, DynamoDB, VPCs, Lambda, RDS, Kinesis) helpful but not required. - Ability to empathize with fellow engineers to understand their pain points. - The desire and ability to learn quickly to support a wide range of technologies. - Design and product sense for building as an internal infrastructure/platform team. - Commitment to equity and belonging. Salary Transparency The range of our base salary cash compensation for this role for candidates living in the United States, besides NYC and San Francisco, CA, is between $155,000 - $216,000. For candidates living in NYC and San Francisco, CA is between $170,000 - $237,000. All final offers are determined using multiple factors including experience and level of expertise. • Contribute to the continued design implication of a scalable, resilient, and highly-available cloud infrastructure platform on Google Cloud. • Develop and maintain infrastructure automation using Terraform and Kubernetes controllers. • Support data access patterns across services (read replicas, connection pooling, schema evolution, and safe rollout strategies). • Ensure that cloud infrastructure adheres to best practices for security and compliance, including monitoring for security vulnerabilities and implementing necessary measures. • Own infrastructure patterns for operational data platforms, including backups, replication, migrations, performance tuning, and incident response. • Maintain lightweight, auto-generated documentation of infrastructure configurations and automation procedures. • Provide technical support and troubleshoot infrastructure-related issues, both during development and in production environments.

• Take cloud problems, investigate deeply, explain root causes clearly, and propose practical solutions • Own work end to end, drive it to completion, and communicate progress consistently • Build, operate, and improve GCP infrastructure, with some AWS support as needed • Support Kubernetes workloads on GKE and help teams run reliable, cost effective systems at scale • Work with core GCP building blocks including: • Kubernetes and containerized workloads • Queueing and messaging systems such as Google Pub Sub, Amazon SQS, RabbitMQ, or similar • Relational database systems like Postgres and Microsoft SQL Server • Data and storage systems such as object storage and BigQuery • Networking components including load balancers, web application firewalls, and traffic routing • Use logs, metrics, and tracing to troubleshoot production systems and improve performance and reliability • Identify opportunities to simplify architecture, reduce operational overhead, and improve scalability • Bring curiosity and follow through to understand how cloud resources work and why they behave the way they do • Maintain a habit of using AI tools to think, build, and ship faster—it’s your default, not an afterthought.

• Build the Internal Platform: Evolve our CI/CD ecosystem (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD) into a seamless, self-service platform that supports rapid deployment of microservices and AI-driven applications. • Execute Snowflake Infrastructure: Own the infrastructure side of Snowflake, including account provisioning, access controls, and network architecture, ensuring a solid foundation for our data and application engineering teams. • Automate FinOps Governance: Go beyond monthly reports by implementing "governance-as-code." Write automated policies and scripts that actively manage resource lifecycles, tag compliance, and prevent wasteful cloud spend before it happens. • Advance Infrastructure as Code: Manage and scale our IaC (Terraform), with modular, reusable patterns that allow developers to provision what they need within guardrails. • Support AI Velocity: Ensure our infrastructure can keep pace with the high-velocity creation of AI tools and applications, managing segmentation, dependency connections, and compute scaling efficiently.
