Database Administration & Operations Lead
Qualysoft
• Lead the deployment, configuration, management, and optimisation of enterprise database platforms (MS SQL, MySQL, Progress, MongoDB, Oracle, DB2) • Own backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies; validate and execute DR testing procedures • Perform advanced performance tuning (execution plans, indexing, wait events, resource bottlenecks, AWR/ASH analysis) • Manage database high availability solutions including clustering, replication, AlwaysOn, Data Guard, and log shipping • Drive version upgrades, patching, vulnerability remediation, and full database lifecycle management • Ensure data integrity, encryption (TLS, TDE), secure connectivity, and regulatory compliance • Lead incident response and deep troubleshooting of outages and performance degradations • Oversee database capacity planning, utilisation reviews, and growth forecasting • Support audit, compliance, and license reviews; remediate findings • Lead database migration and consolidation initiatives (on-premises to cloud or cross-platform) • Support business continuity planning and DR execution • Oversee secure decommissioning and data sanitisation processes • Maintain architecture documentation, operational procedures, and support models • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to L2 Database Analysts, including On-Call rota coordination • Manage vendor escalations and third-party support engagement
Job Requirements
- Expert-level administration experience across MS SQL, MySQL, Progress, MongoDB, Oracle, and DB2
- Strong performance tuning and engine diagnostics expertise
- Deep understanding of HA/DR architectures and recovery strategies
- Experience with encryption, certificates, secure drivers, and endpoint hardening
- Capacity planning and database growth modelling experience
- Knowledge of backup technologies and cross-site failover design
- Understanding of data security, auditing, masking, and privilege management
- Experience with cloud-managed database services (Azure, AWS, GCP equivalents)
- Monitoring and observability expertise for database telemetry and alerting
- Familiarity with license compliance and vendor entitlement management
- Migration planning and platform consolidation expertise
- Scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder communication skills
