Job Description

Business Development Director, European Rail

Transreport Limited

- Work Location: Europe (Remote) - Type: Full-time About Transreport Transreport improves the travel experience for passengers with reduced mobility by helping transport operators deliver reliable assisted travel services. Our technology enables rail staff and operators to coordinate support more effectively across the rail network, reducing costs and improving reliability. Today, Transreport’s technology is deployed by more than 30 railway operators across Great Britain and Japan, and has supported over 10 million assistances and more than 1 million passengers globally. We are a Series A company, recognised with the UK King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation and as a finalist in the 2023 Apple Design Awards. The Opportunity As we expand into new European markets, we are hiring a Business Development Director (European Rail), to help lead that next stage of growth. European rail is a complex and relationship-driven market, where opportunities must be built across operators, authorities, and institutions through long cycles, trusted networks, and formal procurement processes. This is a senior, end-to-end commercial role for someone who can open doors, shape strategic opportunities, and convert them into commercial agreements in a fragmented, procurement-heavy environment. Tasks What You Will Do - Identify and prioritise target operators, authorities, and institutions across Europe - Develop a clear market-entry plan for priority markets, accounts, and stakeholders - Build relationships from initial contact through to senior stakeholder level (Director / C-level) - Initiate and develop strategic conversations that lead to commercial opportunities - Progress opportunities through complex, multi-stakeholder environments, procurement processes, and policy contexts - Lead deal structuring and negotiations through to signed agreements - Use your network, events, and direct outreach to generate access to decision-makers - Personally lead opportunities from first engagement through to deal closure, working hands-on and with a high degree of autonomy throughout. What Success Looks Like First 6 months - Clear prioritisation of target markets, accounts, and stakeholders - A practical market-entry plan in place for selected European markets - Relationships established with relevant stakeholders across selected markets - Consistent access to senior decision-makers - A pipeline of qualified commercial opportunities First 12 months - Strong presence with senior stakeholders across multiple markets - Active participation in tenders and structured commercial discussions - Opportunities progressed through procurement and commercial processes, leading to signed contracts - Transreport recognised as a credible partner in target markets Requirements Must have - Proven track record of selling into European rail organisations and navigating long-cycle commercial processes in regulated environments - Proven experience with public procurement, tender processes, and how policy and institutional stakeholders influence buying decisions - Proven track record of opening doors and engaging senior stakeholders (Director / C-level) - An established network across European rail operators, authorities, institutions, or industry bodies - Strong understanding of who the buyers, influencers, and decision-makers are within rail organisations, including formal and informal decision-making structures - Ability to develop a clear commercial plan and execute it independently - Strong commercial judgement, communication, and stakeholder management skills - A hands-on approach, with the ability and willingness to do the work directly without a sales team around you Nice to have - Experience in rail accessibility, mobility, or passenger services - Experience working across multiple European markets - Background in SaaS, infrastructure, or regulated industries We value impact over years of experience. If you can demonstrate strong outcomes, we want to hear from you. How We Work - Ownership over hierarchy - Clarity over process - Impact over activity We operate with high autonomy and high accountability. You will not inherit a pipeline or a supporting sales structure. We expect you to be accountable for building the plan, opening the doors, and converting opportunities. Why Join Transreport - Work on a mission with real societal impact - Help shape how accessibility is delivered across European rail systems - Join a Series A company at a pivotal stage of international growth - Play a leading role in opening a new market for a proven platform - Build something that becomes essential infrastructure, not optional software Interview Roadmap - Intro Call (30 mins) - Market & Commercial Deep Dive - Case: Opening a New Rail Market - Final Conversation Let’s work together to shape the future of accessibility across European rail systems. Guaranteed Interview Scheme We’re a Disability Confident employer and we welcome applications from disabled candidates. If you need any adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process, please tell us what would help - we’ll work with you to make the process as accessible as possible. We also offer a Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS) for candidates who consider themselves to have a disability as defined under the Equality Act 2010. If you indicate this option in your application and your application demonstrates that you meet the essential criteria for the role, you’ll be invited to interview or assessment. Choosing GIS doesn’t guarantee a job offer. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
