We are seeking an experienced Project Manager, Tax and Legal to join the Legal team, reporting directly to the General Counsel. In this role, you will lead cross-functional initiatives related to tax planning, compliance, corporate structuring, and regulatory matters. In addition, you will oversee outside tax counsel and other related advisors, ensuring work is scoped appropriately, delivered on time, and aligned with the firm’s objectives. You will partner with teams across the company to coordinate complex tax and legal projects, including entity structuring, domestic and international tax compliance, and other strategic initiatives. You will work closely with both internal stakeholders and external advisors to drive execution, improve processes, and help scale our legal and tax infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to shape how we manage significant tax matters and outside counsel relationships, and to build durable systems that support the firm’s long-term growth. This role is open to remote work in the US or hybrid in our Berkeley or New York office. Responsibilities - Lead end-to-end delivery of tax and legal projects, defining objectives, timelines, budgets, and success metrics. - Develop detailed project plans; establish clear ownership and prioritization; monitor progress and report status to senior stakeholders. - Manage outside tax counsel and other advisors, including scoping engagements, tracking deliverables, and monitoring spend against budget. - Document and improve legal and tax processes; design operating models for new structures, regulatory requirements, and compliance initiatives; identify opportunities for efficiency and risk reduction. - Communicate clearly with senior leadership, providing concise updates, sound recommendations, and managing change to ensure adoption of new processes. - Mentor junior team members or analysts supporting legal and tax workstreams. - Provide additional support to the broader Legal team on operational or strategic initiatives as needed. Requirements - 5+ years of relevant experience in project management. - Exposure to the following is a plus, but not required: tax, legal operations, or related functions, ideally within a hedge fund, asset manager, law firm, or professional services environment. - Proven experience managing complex, cross-functional projects in fast-paced environments, including coordination with outside counsel. - Bachelor’s degree required; JD, CPA, MBA, or other advanced degree a plus. - Authorization to work in the United States. The base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $175,000 in the location(s) of this posting. Individual salaries are determined through a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography. Base salary does not include other forms of total compensation such as bonus compensation and other benefits.
