• Learn and develop expertise in Scala functional programming and related frameworks • Create and drive the technical design of backend capabilities • Contribute to core platform capabilities that support multiple products (e.g., identity, authentication, APIs, shared services) • Support software deployments, including debugging, troubleshooting, and coordination with DevOps and QA Engineers • Collaborate with Product and Design to break down work, assess tradeoffs, identify risks, and align solutions to business objectives. • Investigate, resolve, and document root cause for technical issues in production • Develop and monitor software system validation procedures and automated tests • Research and propose new technologies, industry trends, and best practices to propel our team and product forward • Work in a collaborative team environment to deliver impactful financial products • Share knowledge through pairing, code reviews, and technical guidance

• Work with a multidisciplinary team; • Conduct discovery to understand business rules and design scalable solutions; • Develop solutions and address root causes of the squad's needs; • Monitor alert channels, identify blockers, mitigate them and propose solutions; • Define and develop architecture for new features, maintaining traceability and observability throughout development.

• Develop and maintain backend services on Node.js • Write automated tests for new and existing code • Integrate with third-party APIs (payment systems, email services, SMS) • Optimize performance and scalability • Work with MongoDB database, Redis storage and OpenSearch engine • Conduct code reviews and participate in technical discussions • Work with existing codebase, refactoring

• Drive collaboration on technical direction for complex, cross-cutting systems — data modeling, API design, clinical workflow architecture, and integration patterns • Scope and shape work end-to-end: from identifying the right problem to solving it, collaborating closely with product and design to define what “done” looks like • Write code across the entire stack (currently Ruby + Rails on the backend and Turbo/Tailwind on the frontend) with a focus on the systems and abstractions that other engineers build on • Evaluate technical risk and tradeoffs clearly — know when to invest in architecture and when to ship the simplest thing that works • Mentor and elevate the team through architecture discussions, pairing, code review, and setting high standards without gatekeeping • Build deep domain expertise in our problem space and use it to challenge product assumptions, surface risks early, and advocate for provider and member experience • Collaborate across engineering, product, design, and clinical/operations teams to ensure technical decisions serve business and clinical goals
