Job Description
Data Analyst & Engineer Intern - Summer 2026
Rocket Companies
Interns at the Rock Family of Companies gain priceless hands-on experience. Here, they learn how it feels to be in the workplace, participate in events and become a valuable member of our team. We are seeking a curious, analytically minded, and technically driven Data Analyst & Engineer Summer Intern to join our Data Engineering & Analytics team during a pivotal period of platform modernization. This hybrid role blends data engineering fundamentals with hands-on analytics, giving the intern a unique opportunity to both build the data infrastructure and extract actionable insights from it. The intern will play an active role in our organization's migration to Microsoft Fabric, working alongside data engineers, data scientists, and internal business clients to transition legacy reporting assets, build modern data pipelines, leverage AI tools to surface business insights, and help establish a scalable, well-governed data platform. This is an ideal role for someone who wants to develop skills across the full data value chain — from ingestion and transformation through analysis and storytelling. About the role - Report & Dashboard Migration. - Migrate existing Tableau dashboards and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports into Power BI, ensuring visual accuracy, data integrity, and alignment with business requirements. - Work with internal clients and report owners to validate migrated dashboards, gather feedback, and implement refinements. - Document report mapping and transformation logic to maintain a clear audit trail throughout the migration process. - Data Pipeline Development & Monitoring. - Build, test, and deploy data pipelines within Microsoft Fabric to connect new and existing data sources across the organization. - Implement data ingestion and transformation workflows following the medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers), ensuring data is properly staged, cleansed, and enriched at each tier. - Write and optimize SQL queries and PySpark scripts to support data transformation, quality checks, and pipeline logic. - Set up automated alerts and monitoring to track data load status, detect pipeline failures, and flag data quality issues in near real time. - Design and implement outlier detection mechanisms to proactively identify anomalous data points, unexpected volume shifts, or deviations from established patterns before they impact downstream reporting and analytics. - Perform unit testing and data validation to ensure pipeline outputs meet accuracy, completeness, and timeliness standards. - Analytics & AI-Driven Insight Generation. - Leverage AI-powered analytics tools to help internal business clients distill insights from complex datasets, including identifying meaningful patterns, explaining underlying reasons and trends, and surfacing actionable findings. - Apply statistical methods and AI-assisted analysis to detect correlations, segment data, and uncover drivers behind key business metrics. - Translate analytical findings into clear, compelling narratives and visualizations that enable stakeholders to make informed decisions quickly. - Collaborate with business clients to understand their analytical questions, frame hypotheses, and deliver data-driven answers that go beyond surface-level reporting. - Explore and evaluate emerging AI tools and techniques for their potential to enhance the team's analytics workflows and accelerate time-to-insight. About you - Currently pursuing a Bachelor's (Senior or Junior Level) or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. - Intermediate Experience with Tableau, SQL and Power BI.
