Financial Data Analyst – Contractor

DNAnexus

• Act as a finance team subject matter expert on internal data sources and structures, contributing to the design and development of a semantic layer for enterprise and financial analytics. • Monitor and analyze financial, business, and key operational metrics to track progress towards goals and support data-driven organizational decisions. • Participate in budgeting processes and conduct variance analyses in collaboration with functional leaders and the accounting team. • Develop and manage cloud cost-attribution models from COGS to Revenue. • Perform ad-hoc analyses to support business needs. • Lead initiatives to identify inefficiencies and optimize cloud costs, leveraging both provider tools and internal dashboards to achieve significant savings. • Develop new metrics and performance reporting as the business evolves. • Create and maintain comprehensive business and technical documentation for financial data processes. • Empower others to utilize data effectively for strategic insights through advocacy and education.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in analytics in finance, product, operations, or related areas.
  • Intermediate SQL proficiency, with ability to write complex queries, stored procedures, and performing data manipulation for large datasets.
  • Expert user of Tableau, Superset, or other BI tools for creating dynamic dashboards and data visualizations that translate complex data into actionable business insights.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Redshift or any other SQL-based database.
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting software.
  • Highly analytical and passionate about the collection of data and providing critical insights to drive high demand and growth.
  • Clear and direct communication skills for complex, technical topics.
  • A strong ability in presenting complex financial data clearly to diverse audiences, including leadership and both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Solid ability to continuously improve, eagerness to learn new tools, and a proactive approach to optimizing current processes.
  • Comfortable navigating shifting business requirements and reprioritizing workstreams to meet the needs of executive stakeholders.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity in data and business logic to deliver structured insights and reliable reporting.
  • A "can-do" attitude with a willingness to tackle tasks hands-on.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within teams.
  • Nice to have Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages.
  • Experience with modeling tools such as DBT or ETL tools such as Airflow.

About the Role This role designs, enhances, and optimizes Anaplan models that power Symetra’s sales incentive compensation programs, including commissions, bonuses, quotas, and performance reporting. This role reports to the Director of Incentive Compensation & Analytics and works cross-functionally with HR, Finance, Sales, and Data teams to implement plan changes, improve automation, and reduce manual effort.
