Senior Network Security Engineer

• Lead the technical advancement and refinement of our network security architecture, designs, implementations, and operational practices • Work with engineering to ensure the future state of network design adheres to the policies and practices you set forth • Ensure operational systems and procedures are in place to identify, respond to, and remediate threats to the network • Design, Configure, and maintain network devices like routers, switches, and firewalls to prevent intrusion into the service provider network • Design, configure, and maintain network monitoring and analysis tools like NMS, IDS, IPS, and SIEM servers and appliances to isolate and diagnose potential threats and intrusion attempts into the service provider network • Architect comprehensive security procedures and take a lead role in the assembly of and operationalization of incident response and disaster recovery plans • Coordinate cross-functional organizational incident response team and practices to ensure a response, prioritization of events, and respective remediations • Act as the first line of defense preventing and responding to security incidents, malicious behavior, and attacks • Monitor, test, and report on the network’s hardware and software to ensure the integrity of the service provider network’s design, configuration, and security and compliance posture • Review and ensure vulnerability and patch management is prioritized and remediated in a timely manner • Identify, propose, and implement measures to improve the security posture of our service provider network • Produce and peer review MOPS for complex changes on the network • Drive world-class availability and security in a constantly growing and scaling national network • Contribute toward departmental and company goals and objectives
Job Requirements
- 7+ years working in a Network Security Engineering and/or Operations role in the telecommunications service provider industry
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in cyber security, electronics, telecom, or computer science
- Solid understanding of Ethernet & IP protocols
- Understanding of IP networking, TCP/IP protocols, Routing and Switching, and DDoS mitigation
- Experience with Nokia, Adtran, Juniper, Calix, Cisco and/or A10 Networks equipment is mandatory
- Prior hands-on experience with SIEM, EMS, NMS, ticketing systems, and other network tools is desirable
- Must enjoy a dynamic and continually changing work environment and willingness to adapt to changes in priority and focus
- Willing to be on call and work maintenance window activity and or rotating shifts as needed
- Technology and Equipment certifications are strongly desired
- Clear and concise verbal/written communication skills is essential
- Excellent people skills to establish a good rapport with customers, suppliers and internal colleagues
- Routine travel to MetroNet and/or Vendor facilities may be required but is not expected to exceed 10%

What you’ll do · Implement and tune cloud security controls (IAM, logging, vulnerability management, configuration baselines, incident readiness). · Configure security tooling and integrations to produce repeatable evidence for authorization and ConMon. · Support remediation and hardening workstreams, including vulnerability scan remediation support. · Help automate evidence exports / reporting inputs where feasible and keep operations sustainable post-authorization.
