Application Engineering Leader – Defense

Switzerland Global Enterprise

• Lead and develop a team of application engineers supporting defense-focused programs • Provide technical leadership across the sales project lifecycle • Act as a key technical interface with defense customers, prime contractors, and internal teams • Balance hands-on technical involvement with people leadership, resource planning, and capability development • Manage engineering resources, priorities, and workloads across multiple concurrent programs • Present complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering experience, including application engineering, systems engineering, or power systems roles supporting complex technical programs.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading technical teams, including mentoring engineers and managing technical execution across multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated experience working in defense, naval, or government‑funded programs, including direct interaction with customers and program stakeholders.

Job Description: The purpose of this position is to lead the constructability & collaborate with Nextpower teams on new Tracker integrated work platform designs and current products. Turning complex designs into easily constructable (on-time) builds. If this is your wheelhouse, keep reading. The position is Fremont, CA office centric with field support (on-site training) integral. Field: You will provide the train-the-trainer (role) and the on-site constructability training with Nextpower Contractor on first-time (new tracker integrated solutions) builds. Details matter. This initiative-taking role will collaborate with our teams (research & development, documentation, product applications, project engineering, product managers, quality, tooling, and safety) for generating new installation manuals for new tracker integrated solutions and current product updates. You will orchestrate North America field applications personnel on “best practices” build faster (safely) training. Customer-facing skills are essential with Nextpower senior management, cross-functional departments as well as owners, prime & secondary contractors. Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do: Collaborate, analyze, and suggest areas for value engineering to provide most ideal solutions o Reduce line items (PNs) o Standardization Identify opportunities for tracker integrated solutions installation improvements o Time studies/install evaluation (trackers & components) o Product improvement reports for improved installation Manage field applications team, field customer support o Support Customers on site for key product release/resolution of issues o Manage personnel & training for Nextpower installation “first time quality” Evaluate field related issues to determine root cause (Six Sigma) o Installation (construction deviation) o Supplier quality (non-conformance) o Design analysis for cause Evaluate compatibility of various Nextpower products and components o Components as-built o Replacement parts Review of product installation documents o Construction set o Installation manuals o Technical bulletins (TBN) Participating & lead field engineering changes / updates to o Installation manuals o Technical bulletins (TBNs) Ideal Candidate: · Nextpower (Engineering) experience, minimum four (4) years preferred · Engineering degree with mechanical tracker resume · Ability to analyze field engineering solutions with a scope, schedule & cost perspective to find most value engineered solution(s) · Management experience (teams/personnel) · Field experience in training construction personnel · Ability to Author technical documents · Current Nextpower subcontractor or full-time employee (FTE) Here is some of what you’ll need (required): · B.S. Mechanical (or Structural) Engineering or extensive field knowledge (quantifiable) for mechanical construction · Minimum 3 years of mechanical / structural engineering experience in solar trackers (Nextpower preference) · Demonstrated examples of solving complex problems · Initiative driven, independent, technical aptitude and excellent people skills · Comfortable in a dynamic atmosphere with a rapidly expanding customer base and product offerings · Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate professionally verbally, in writing and with presentations · Aptitude using following platforms: Arena, NetSuite, Jira, Confluence Here are a few of our preferred experiences: · Designing and constructing ground-mounted solar tracking systems · Prior field leadership roles: engineering, applications, site leadership roles Nextpower offers a comprehensive benefits package.
