Senior Cloud Engineer

General Dynamics Information Technology

• Maintain, monitor, and support the client’s AWS cloud environment, including installations and resource provisioning • Proactively monitor resource usage, evaluate costs, and deliver strategies to optimize expenditures within the AWS environment • Provide expert recommendations for improvement, addressing the client’s cloud infrastructure and identifying opportunities for greater efficiency and innovation • Serve as the primary point of contact and SME for all cloud-related queries, ensuring alignment with the client’s business goals • Work directly with client stakeholders to ensure cloud services meet operational requirements while adhering to security and compliance standards • Draft and submit IT-related requests on behalf of the client, reducing operational overhead for the client’s internal teams • Provide hands-on troubleshooting, incident response, and resolution for any issues related to the AWS environment • Stay updated with AWS advancements and industry best practices, integrating new solutions into the existing environment as appropriate

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a cloud engineering role, with a focus on AWS services
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field
  • Expert knowledge of AWS platform and services, including compute, storage, networking, and security
  • Proven ability to monitor cloud environments, manage cost efficiencies, and optimize resource utilization at a production scale
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact with client stakeholders at multiple levels of technical expertise
  • Experience with cloud monitoring tools and techniques
  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator) strongly preferred

This team is responsible for establishing the processes, technology, documentation, and providing user support to allow the internal EITaaS team to access and use services within both the Production and Pre-Production Azure Cloud environments. This team, technology, and processes support not only the internal EITaaS team, but also the Dept. of the Air Force. You will work with your manager and other cloud engineers to provide leadership in the execution of requirements, priorities, and objectives as defined to support the EITaaS engagement. This includes participation in strategizing, planning, designing, deploying, testing and documenting cloud solutions. Your senior Azure experience in supporting complex and custom deployments, plus your use of Azure CLI and PowerShell are critical for success. You will participate in the full life cycle of activities while ensuring product success follows all established processes and standards, including DoD and DAF policies. Your hands-on Azure cloud expertise, understanding of STIGS for Windows/RHEL VMs and how to implement a secure PaaS/IaaS environment are standard capabilities in this role. You will support the other Cloud Engineers on the team by providing hands-on engineering, administration, guidance and mentoring support.
