Vannevar is a defense technology company building AI to deter our adversaries. In the 21st century, conflict moves at algorithmic speed and foresight equals firepower. Our agentic AI is purpose-built to compete with China—from cross-Strait conflict to gray zone coercion. Trained on the most mission-relevant datasets in defense, our technology models adversary behavior, simulates campaigns, and recommends the best course of action to decision makers. Our AI systems are some of the most trusted in the industry and actively used on the front lines of the Indo-Pacific to keep the peace and save lives. Exceptional technology starts with exceptional people. Vannevar is a small agile team combining world-class engineers with veteran strategists who bring deep expertise in defense and tradecraft. We’re building a company defined by mission impact, user empathy, and disciplined growth. In just three years, we grew from $3M to $80M in ARR, achieved early profitability, and reached unicorn status—proving that disruption doesn’t require an ego, and staying power doesn’t mean standing still. About the roleVannevar's Frontend Platform team builds and maintains the frontend foundation that the entire Vannevar platform runs on. We turn cross-product needs into stable, well-documented platform capabilities so product teams can ship fast, stay consistent, and focus on mission problems. We're looking for a senior frontend engineer to join this small, high-leverage team. You'll work on shared libraries, developer tooling, and the application shell (the code that every Vannevar product depends on). You'll also build user-facing platform features that directly impact how operators and analysts experience the product. What you’ll do - Own and evolve core frontend libraries and the application platform that Vannevar's products are built on - Design and implement shared infrastructure: routing, authentication, error handling, UI components, and cross-app patterns - Improve developer experience: faster local dev, better build pipelines, and clearer documentation - Partner with product teams to understand their needs and turn recurring patterns into reusable platform capabilities - Mentor and guide engineers across the organization on frontend architecture and best practices What we look for - 7+ years of professional experience in frontend software development - Experience working on frontend infrastructure, platform, or developer experience teams. You've built shared libraries, design systems, component frameworks, or internal tooling that other engineers depend on. - Deep expertise in TypeScript and React. You've thought seriously about component API design, render performance, state management boundaries, and how to ship library code that other teams consume without friction. - Strong opinions on developer experience, loosely held. You care about making other engineers productive and can balance long-term platform health with near-term team needs. - Eye for design and attention to detail. You hold UI to a high visual and interaction quality bar. - You treat other engineering teams as customers. You also care about the end users downstream (the operators using what gets built on top of your platform). - Comfort operating across the stack when needed. You don't stop at the frontend boundary if the right solution involves a backend change. Nice to have - Experience with module federation, micro-frontend architectures, or scaling frontend monorepos. - Familiarity with Node.js, Postgres, and OpenFGA - Familiarity with web application security (authentication, authorization, XSS prevention) and experience applying it across full stack applications - Experience building or contributing to design systems at scale. - Active Security clearance (or ability to obtain one) and willingness to travel onsite at least quarterly to perform user research and help debug issues. What we offerCompetitive SalaryThe salary range for this position is $170,000 - $225,000 + equity. Within the range, individual pay is determined by experience, relevant education, and/or training. Comprehensive BenefitsWe’re proud to offer competitive benefits that support our employees. Some key highlights of our benefits package include: - Health, dental, and vision insurance - Remote friendly with WeWork access - Unlimited PTO, shared downtime during the federal holiday calendar, and company-wide off time at the end of each year - 401(k) match - Lifestyle & wellbeing stipends - Salary top-up during military reserve duty - Fully paid parental leave - Child and pet care reimbursement during travel Vannevar is an equal opportunity employer, and qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender perception or identity, national origin, age, marital status, protected veteran status, or disability status. We encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply, even if you don't feel like you're a perfect fit. If you're passionate about contributing to our mission, we'd love to hear from you!
