Software Development Manager – Internal Tools

Intersect Power

• Lead the strategy, development, and delivery of internal software tools and operational control systems that power day-to-day execution across the company • Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, and Data teams to translate real-world workflows into reliable systems that improve visibility, automation, and control • Ensure our internal platforms are resilient, maintainable, and aligned with Intersect’s long-term growth • Hire, mentor, and manage internal software engineers while fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning • Set clear expectations, provide feedback, and support career growth across the teams • Establish strong engineering standards and development best practices • Oversee agencies, contractors, and offshore teams to ensure high-quality, timely delivery • Define Statements of Work (SOWs), manage deliverables, and integrate externally developed code into internal systems • Define and guide architecture decisions for internal tools and operational control systems • Ensure applications are scalable, secure, and aligned with sustainable engineering practices • Lead the software development lifecycle using Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Data teams to gather requirements and understand workflows • Maintain high availability and performance standards for mission-critical control systems

Job Requirements

  • 7+ years of software development experience, including 3+ years in a people management or technical leadership role
  • Proven experience designing and delivering internal operational tools, ERP integrations, or control systems
  • Demonstrated success managing blended teams of internal engineers and external development partners
  • Strong technical foundation in modern software development (e.g., React, Go, Python, C#, or similar), database design, and cloud platforms such as GCP
  • Deep understanding of Agile methodologies and experience using tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps
  • Strong architectural judgment and ability to balance technical quality with speed and business priorities
  • Excellent communication skills that will help you succeed in cross-functional environments
  • A collaborative, pragmatic leadership style focused on accountability, reliability, and continuous improvement
  • Preferred experience that will help you stand out: Exposure to industrial control systems, SCADA integrations, or hardware-software interfaces
  • Familiarity with low-code/no-code enterprise tools such as Retool
  • Experience working in the energy or infrastructure sectors
