About the roleOur Mission teams operate like small startups within the Vannevar Labs umbrella. As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you will serve as the technical owner for a mission and its associated customer engagements. You will work directly with operators, analysts, and technical stakeholders supporting national security missions, owning the architecture, development, deployment, and fielding of software solutions tailored to real-world operational needs. In this role, you will act as a senior technical counterpart to customer stakeholders — translating mission requirements into scalable software, navigating government technical environments, and ensuring capabilities are delivered reliably into production. You will collaborate closely with product, design, platform engineering, and mission teammates to deliver high-impact outcomes, while remaining a hands-on individual contributor. What you'll do - Architect, build, and own software solutions deployed directly to customer environments in support of mission-critical use cases - Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customer stakeholders, engaging with senior technical leaders to understand mission needs and represent Vannevar’s technical approach - Own end-to-end technical delivery for your mission workstreams, from requirements gathering and system design through implementation, deployment, and sustainment - Contribute hands-on code to improve product capabilities, performance, and scalability across customer use cases - Build software that enables users to unlock value from large-scale data holdings, including text, multimedia, and geospatial datasets spanning over 46 languages - Collaborate with cross-functional partners — including engineers, product designers, and mission domain experts — to plan and deliver complex software features - Support government-facing technical artifacts as needed, including input to RFIs, RFPs, Statements of Work, and white papers - Navigate and integrate with government IT ecosystems, ensuring solutions meet security, compliance, and operational constraints - This is a fully remote role, but traveling is required - travel up to 20–30% to engage directly with mission owners and deliver capabilities in the field What you should have - 5+ years as a Full Stack Developer including familiarity with relational databases (like Postgres), caching technologies (like Redis), object storage systems (like S3), and modern front-end frameworks (like React) - Experience developing and deploying software compliant with DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) - Experience interfacing with government owned IT systems (for example, data platforms, IdAM providers, SIEM, CDSs, etc) - Experience working with government IT and program offices to scope technical requirements, architecture, and integrations - Experience working with end users to scope mission requirements, conduct user testing, and gain product feedback - Excellent communication and teamwork skills - Must hold an active U.S. TS Security clearance with SCI Eligibility What we offerCompetitive SalaryThe salary range for this position is $135,000-$205,000 + equity. • Holistic conception of complex data center projects from initial idea through to implementation • Definition of project objectives and execution of detailed requirements analysis • Project management and detailed design of electrical systems, in particular medium- and low-voltage switchgear, UPS systems, standby power systems (generators) and transformers • Preparation of wiring diagrams, circuit diagrams and technical drawings for electrical installations • Performing technical calculations such as short-circuit and selectivity calculations, as well as lighting design • Developing sustainable solutions to optimize power supply and energy efficiency (Power Usage Effectiveness – PUE) • Documentation and quality assurance in accordance with project-specific requirements and applicable standards and regulations (e.g., VDE, DIN)

• The Chief Engineer is the Technical Manager on board the vessel and Head of the Engine Department. • Ensuring compliance with all applicable Energy legislation and regulatory controls as well as Company’s Energy Management System requirements; • Ensuring preventive maintenance and repairing machinery, avoiding delays on sea passage or during the turnaround of the vessel. • Reporting directly to the Master and the Technical Manager any matters affecting Quality, Safety & Health, Environmental protection and Energy Efficiency; • Ensuring close liaison and cooperation with all department heads to facilitate smooth and efficient vessel operations; • Ensuring that the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) is updated and operated in compliance with Company’s requirements; • Ensuring that Engine Officers and Crew are familiar with the Company's Management System; • Motivating the Engine Officers and Crew in executing their duties according to the Company's Management System; • Ensuring that a robust Safety & Health culture and Environmental and Energy Efficiency awareness is encouraged and maintained; • Providing the Master with a positive report prior to each departure, that the vessel is ready to proceed to sea, with respect to the main and auxiliary machinery and the responsibilities of the Engineering Department; • Ensuring close co-operation with the Staff Captain with particular regard to the safe loading of the vessel, stress and stability; • Responsible for safe and efficient fuel oil, diesel oil and lube oil bunkering operations; • Ordering spares and repairs (including dry-dock specifications) as required via the Technical Manager; • Ensuring that activities are well planned, organized and safeguards established against all identified risks; • Issuing appropriate orders and instructions in a clear and simple manner and verify that specified requirements are observed; • Ensuring that corrective and preventive actions are implemented timely and effectively; • Reviewing the Company’s Management System on a regular basis and reporting to the Master proposals for improvement. • Ensuring the Engineering Department is in compliance with all applicable environmental legislation and regulatory controls as well as Company’s Environmental & Energy Management System; • Ensuring that all engine room personnel have appropriate training on environmental & energy policies and procedures, including but not limited to training on the operation and use of pollution prevention equipment, bilge and ballast pumps, Incinerator, Sewage Treatment Plant and Oily Water Separator (OWS); • Ensuring that all engine room personnel have appropriate training to make entries in the Oil Record Book, the Garbage Record Book, the Engine Room Bilge, Oil Residue and Sludge Tank Sounding Log or any other logs required by the Company environmental procedures, or any other maritime environmental protection and energy efficiency requirements; • Ensuring that the Incinerator, the Oily Water Separator (incl. the Oil Content Meter) the Sewage Treatment Plant and any other pollution prevention equipment installed onboard are operational and tested in accordance with the relevant Machinery Space Operation Procedures.
