Role Description As the Engineering Manager, Core Platform, you will lead a team of Platform Engineers, driving execution at a high level while fostering a culture of trust, empathy, and technical excellence. The Core Platform team is responsible for improving developer productivity, AI tooling, observability, shared services, and code quality in our core systems. Your work will directly shape how quickly we can turn ideas into impact for patients. You will help transform behavioral health care by building the platform behind our care model. You will provide structured execution, clear prioritization, and alignment with business needs. As a hands-on leader, you will: - Lead sprint ceremonies, roadmap planning, and provide mentorship. - Remove blockers and contribute technically as needed. - Create a culture of execution and continuous improvement. - Partner with leaders in our Engineering, Data, and ML teams. - Define a vision for our Core Platform team. Responsibilities - Manage and mentor a growing team of Platform Engineers; foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. - Lead execution, ensuring the team delivers high-quality, reliable solutions aligned with business priorities, including leading sprint ceremonies and roadmapping. - Own the team’s roadmap, balancing near-term developer pain with long-term architectural investments. - Hire and develop a high-performing team through strong onboarding, coaching, and performance management. - Build and maintain shared application capabilities, including libraries, services, frameworks, and internal tooling. - Establish clear platform boundaries and contracts to avoid service sprawl and reduce cognitive load for product teams. - Measure impact using outcomes like developer velocity, onboarding time, reliability, codebase health, and platform adoption. - Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements to team workflows, tools, and development practices. - Work with Product and Engineering to sequence and deliver incremental architectural improvements without impacting feature development. - Own AI tooling adoption and best practices across Engineering. Qualifications - 2+ years managing and mentoring Platform Engineers, with a focus on execution and delivery, and 6+ years of engineering experience total. - Proven ability to drive team operations, including sprint ceremonies, roadmap planning, and prioritization. - Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python preferred), with the ability to guide and review technical work. - Experience being an effective cross-functional partner with Product, Engineering, Machine Learning, and Analytics, aligning work with business goals. - Clear, concise communicator who can translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. - Comfortable navigating ambiguity, breaking down complex problems, and driving iterative solutions. - Committed people leader with a history of coaching talent and fostering a high-performance, inclusive team culture. Requirements - If you are not in NYC, this role requires travel to our NYC headquarters once per quarter. - Candidates located within a 75-minute commute of our NYC office are expected to work onsite 4 days/week. Nice to Haves - Experience leading a Core Services or Developer Experience team. - Familiarity with SPACE and DORA metrics. - Experience measuring AI developer tooling impact. Job Requirements
- 2+ years managing and mentoring Platform Engineers, with a focus on execution and delivery, and 6+ years of engineering experience total.
- Proven ability to drive team operations, including sprint ceremonies, roadmap planning, and prioritization.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python preferred), with the ability to guide and review technical work.
- Experience being an effective cross-functional partner with Product, Engineering, Machine Learning, and Analytics, aligning work with business goals.
- Clear, concise communicator who can translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity, breaking down complex problems, and driving iterative solutions.
- Committed people leader with a history of coaching talent and fostering a high-performance, inclusive team culture.
- If you are not in NYC, this role requires travel to our NYC headquarters once per quarter.
