We are seeking an experienced Application Engineer to join our software development team in our Worcester office. This role offers flexibility and can be performed in-office or hybrid. Remote work location will be considered. POSITION OVERVIEW: In this role, you will play a part in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions. You will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance. This is a full time, exempt role. WHAT YOU WILL DO: - Design and develop highly reliable full‑stack solutions using React.js and Spring Boot. - Build new applications, prototypes, and proof‑of‑concept solutions. - Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including architects, business analysts, and QA engineers. - Own the design, coding, unit testing, deployment, and monitoring of the software you build. - Work closely with product owners, developers, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on solution delivery. - Translate business requirements into scalable, high‑performing systems. - Ensure code quality through unit testing, code reviews, and adherence to best practices. - Optimize application performance, security, and stability. - Participate in architecture and design reviews. - Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement. - Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and process improvements. - Build knowledge of P&C insurance concepts, business processes, and Hanover systems. WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field OR 5 years of professional software development experience. - Strong work ethic, prioritization skills, and attention to detail. - 3-5 years of professional software development experience. - 3+ years of hands‑on full‑stack development experience (React + Java). - Expert knowledge of Java and Spring Boot. - Strong knowledge of React.js. - Excellent communication skills. - Excellent problem‑solving and analytical abilities. - Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously. - Strong understanding of monitoring, observability, and application performance management. - Must be eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future (i.e Lawful Permanent Residence or US Citizen) BONUS POINTS FOR: - Experience with containerization (Kubernetes, Docker). - Experience using GitHub Copilot or similar AI‑assisted development platforms. - Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, and deployments. - Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). - Experience with UX/UI concepts and front‑end best practices.
