POSITION SUMMARY The Technical Remediation Manager is responsible for providing technical guidance and training on intervention activities within the Pure Earth’s Global Lead Program including those focused on contaminated site assessment, risk reduction, project design, and implementation of risk mitigation measures. It is anticipated that many such contaminated sites will be related to informal used lead acid battery (ULAB) recycling. The Technical Remediation Manager will also collaborate in the development of technical publications and resources, and may represent Pure Earth with donors, governments, and other stakeholders, as appropriate. Reporting to the Senior Technical Advisor, the Technical Remediation Manager will sit within Pure Earth’s Technical Unit, working alongside colleagues from the Programs Department and other internal and external technical advisors. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - Provide technical support for interventions and program work managed and directed by the Technical Support and Research Department, as requested by Pure Earth staff. - Provide strategic advice to Pure Earth management and operational staff regarding site assessment, exposure/risk to populations, risk reduction project design and risk mitigation measures implementation, including remediation of informal ULAB recycling sites among others. - Develop and review protocols, guidance documents, and training materials related to the Global Lead Program, with special emphasis on the development of country-specific remediation and intervention guidelines. - Provide technical support, coaching, and field training to staff and consultants implementing projects for the Global Lead Program in the countries with Pure Earth presence. This will include training on the use of portable XRFs, environmental sampling, basic health and safety measures, and site remediation alternatives. - Actively support the collection, quality assurance, analysis, and use of environmental and exposure data to inform intervention design, evaluate impact, and share results internally and externally. - Represent Pure Earth and Pure Earth interests at specific events or meetings as requested by Pure Earth. - Assist with research and publication of articles that evaluate project impact and/or assess the scope of lead pollution or other focal areas. QUALIFICATION - MPhil, MSc, or PhD is preferred. We are looking for a background in Environmental Public Health, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, or related Environmental Sciences.
