Role Description Rocky Mountain Laboratories is seeking a Part-Time Healthcare Attorney to support payer disputes, insurance reimbursement matters, and related legal issues affecting laboratory services. This role focuses on advising leadership on reimbursement disputes, insurance appeals, and enforcement of payer obligations while helping the organization navigate complex provider-payer relationships. The attorney will collaborate with internal leadership, billing, and revenue cycle teams to address insurance payment disputes, payer contract interpretation, and reimbursement recovery strategies. The role may also include advising on healthcare regulatory matters, contracts, and employment-related issues as needed within a clinical laboratory environment. Direct experience with payer reimbursement disputes, insurance appeals, claims adjudication, or healthcare collections is strongly preferred. Schedule: Part-time, approximately 15–29 hours per week. Flexible scheduling based on operational needs. Responsibilities: - Provide legal counsel related to healthcare reimbursement, payer disputes, and insurance payment enforcement - Assist with insurance appeals, claim disputes, and reimbursement recovery matters involving commercial insurers and other payers - Advise leadership on payer contract interpretation, enforcement, and dispute resolution strategies - Support recovery of outstanding payments from insurers and other payers through legal strategy, negotiations, and escalation when appropriate - Interpret federal and state regulations impacting laboratory billing, reimbursement, and payer obligations - Collaborate with billing, revenue cycle, compliance, and executive leadership teams on reimbursement disputes and insurance payment recovery - Review and draft contracts, policies, and compliance documentation related to laboratory operations - Provide legal guidance on healthcare regulatory matters including HIPAA, CLIA, and applicable federal and state requirements - Advise leadership on legal risk management and best practices in a clinical laboratory environment - Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve legal matters efficiently - Track hours worked and submit regular reports to management Qualifications - Active license to practice law in Texas or Utah - Must reside in Texas or Utah - Minimum 3 years of legal experience including healthcare law, reimbursement disputes, insurance appeals, or payer-related matters - Experience with payer disputes, reimbursement collections, insurance appeals, or healthcare contract enforcement - Experience negotiating payer disputes or advising on legal strategy related to reimbursement recovery - Strong understanding of healthcare compliance and regulatory frameworks - Excellent written communication, negotiation, and analytical skills - Ability to work independently in a remote, part-time environment Requirements - Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school - Active bar membership in Texas or Utah in good standing Preferred Qualifications - Experience advising diagnostic laboratories, physician practices, hospitals, or healthcare service providers - Direct experience with payer reimbursement disputes, insurance appeals, claims adjudication, or healthcare collections - Experience drafting or enforcing payer-provider agreements - Experience supporting healthcare billing or revenue cycle teams on reimbursement disputes or payer compliance matters - Familiarity with healthcare reimbursement frameworks including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance reimbursement structures - Experience advising on employment matters, HR policies, or workplace compliance Job Type - Part-Time, W2 Salary - Hourly rate commensurate with experience (to be discussed with the hiring manager) Ability to Commute/Relocate - Texas or Utah: Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (Required) Ideal Start Date - As soon as possible Application Deadline - Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the position may be filled before any stated deadline. Job Requirements
