Senior Storage Engineer (Full time travel role)

HPE XP8 Storage Technical Consultant – Mainframe (Full Travel) Location: 100% Travel (Full-time travel role) – Onsite at customer data centers nationwide Remote/Hybrid Notes: Some remote work possible during projects, but primarily onsite travel-based Salary Range: $110,000 – $150,000 (depending on experience) Clearance: US Citizen (No security clearance required) We are seeking an experienced Storage Technical Consultant to support enterprise clients deploying and maintaining HPE XP8 Storage systems connected to IBM z/OS mainframe environments. This is a 100% travel role responsible for implementation, configuration, upgrades, and troubleshooting of enterprise storage solutions at customer data centers. The consultant will work directly with infrastructure, mainframe, and SAN teams to ensure high availability, optimal performance, and compliance with enterprise storage standards. The role may also include training on other HPE storage products. Key Responsibilities - Storage Implementation - Install, configure, and upgrade HPE XP8 Storage enterprise storage arrays. - Perform storage provisioning for both mainframe and open systems environments. - Configure host groups, LDEVs, LUN masking, and SAN zoning. - Mainframe Integration - Integrate storage with IBM z/OS environments. - Configure IBM FICON connectivity for mainframe storage access. - Support CKD device configuration and coordinate I/O definitions with mainframe teams. - Replication & Disaster Recovery - Implement storage replication technologies including HPE XP Continuous Access and HPE XP Continuous Access Journal. - Support disaster recovery and high-availability storage architectures. - Migration & Data Services - Plan and execute migrations between legacy storage systems and XP8 platforms. - Assist with data replication, cutover procedures, and validation. - Troubleshooting & Performance - Analyze storage performance metrics and I/O workloads. - Troubleshoot SAN connectivity, replication issues, and hardware alerts. - Perform firmware updates and system health checks. - Customer Consulting - Provide best-practice recommendations for enterprise storage design. - Document configurations, procedures, and operational guidelines. - Serve as the technical lead during customer implementations.
Job Requirements
- 5+ years of enterprise storage experience.
- Hands-on experience with HPE XP8 Storage or similar enterprise arrays.
- Experience integrating storage with IBM z/OS environments.
- Strong understanding of SAN technologies including IBM FICON and Fibre Channel.
- Experience with storage replication and disaster recovery.
- Strong troubleshooting and customer-facing skills.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with mainframe storage concepts such as CKD devices and HCD configuration.
- Familiarity with storage management tools from Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
- Prior consulting experience in enterprise data center environments.
- Experience supporting financial services, healthcare, or government clients.
