Senior Engineer – x300 NI Support Systems

GE Vernova

• Responsible for Mechanical Nuclear Island Support Systems (MNISS) engineering activities that support the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) design. • Activities focus on the Containment System (T10), including containment function and associated fluid sub-systems. • Develop and maintain the System Design Description, Process Flow Calculations/Diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and other engineering deliverable documents associated with the system. • Responsible for development of specifications/component data sheets for fluid system in-line components. • Work with adjacent teams, disciplines, project management, and contractors to ensure high quality and on time deliverables in support of BWRX-300 engineering milestones. • Provide support to the Licensing organization for regulatory related deliverables. • Responsible for analysis and design work supporting requirements specifications. • Improve areas of project execution and department management through Six Sigma methodology. • Support development efforts for both new products and new technology. • Responsible for necessary corrective and preventive actions resulting from Quality non-compliance monitoring and audit programs. • Responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean Action Work Outs (LAWO).

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in an engineering role
  • Minimum 4 years of experience developing design documents
  • Master's degree in engineering or technical discipline (desired)
  • Previous SRO License (desired)
  • Knowledge working within a regulated environment (nuclear)
  • Experience working with quality standards and systems (e.g. NQA-1, ISO 9000)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects
  • Strong customer mindset
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and cope under pressure
  • Six Sigma training is preferred
  • Established project management skills

Role Description As a Project Engineer in the Datacenter group, you will be responsible for performing engineering design and analysis under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer. You will support client projects and provide quality deliverables that are on time and within the defined budget. Essential Responsibilities: - 50% QA / QC work: Implement the NEI Quality Assurance Plan. Check the work of designers, drafters, and engineers for overall quality and accuracy. - 20% Training: Train junior level engineers and designers in areas of physical design of electrical substations & BESS facilities. - 20% Writing: Write technical go-bys and training documents. Assist with the creation and enforcement of technical standards across the department. - Project Engineer: Your primary responsibility will be technical leadership, short-term focus on project scope, budget, and execution, and ensuring technical quality. Consult regularly with the Team Lead on key decisions and activities. Additional Responsibilities: - Work closely with Technical Directors and Team Leads on projects within the department. - Perform the review of detailed physical engineering for all aspects of electric power substations & BESS facilities including multi-disciplinary coordination. - Typical design products might include general arrangements, elevation views, site layout, bill of materials, equipment specifications, bus sizing for ampacity and structural requirements, grounding plan and details, and conduit plan and details. - Review submittals for conformance with (owner, client) specifications and design to meet all required codes. - Prepare hand and computer-based calculations and models for physical designs. - Prepare a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including cost estimates, budget reports, and proposals for complex projects. - Manage deliverables and deadlines to ensure they are submitted on time for both internal QA/QC deadlines and external deadlines to client. - Ensure that client requirements, specifications, and expectations are being met. - Provide coaching and mentoring to Team Members. - Perform occasional field inspection and construction supervision services when needed. - Check the work of designers, drafters, and engineers for overall quality and accuracy. - Maintain a strong understanding and comprehension of applicable Codes and Standards. - Attend conferences, training workshops, seminars, undergraduate, and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work. - Complete safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines. Qualifications - Bachelor’s in Civil or Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited institution. - 5+ years of relevant engineering or field experience. - FE or PE preferred. - Proficiency with AutoCAD, MathCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite. - Effective written and oral communication skills. - Good interpersonal skills.
