Regional Safety Manager

Overview Position Summary: In this key role, the Regional Safety Manager (RSM) will be responsible for ensuring business focus on the improvement of leading and lagging EHS (environmental, health and safety) indicators, and the improvement of EHS culture. The RSM is a leadership role which accepts responsibility for and achieves these outcomes through the creation of strong relationships with the local management team. The RSM delivers value to these stakeholders by being a close operational confidant who is highly visible, sets high standards in terms of leadership and cooperation, and is focused towards achieving best practice outcomes. Key Responsibilities: - Provide a clear vision of the requirements, initiatives, actions, and outcomes for the local business to meet or exceed the required EHS standards. Ensure these activities are captured within yearly site EHS objectives and action plans, and that they are supported by the required training and measurement tools. - Provide recommendations for the improvement of EHS practices, business processes, operational practices and workplace design through the review and assessment of incident reporting, incident investigations, injuries and workers compensation outcomes, and by applying knowledge of legislative change or improvement in best practices. - Maintain and improve the environmental and safety management systems (ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001). - Support with Workers Compensation cases, including providing directions for local management to maintain their own OSHA 300/300A logs. - Maintain legal compliance with all applicable OSHA and EPA regulations, and insurance safety initiative requirements and/or recommendations. Including completion of all required reporting if needed. - Perform all necessary internal audits and inspections. - Drive the implementation and education of the Strategic management plan. - Plan and assist with implementing EHS policies and procedures in compliance with relevant legislation and corporate requirements. - Source and implement programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, waste, equipment, and other materials. - Recommend measures to reduce or eliminate industrial accidents, MMH (manual material handling), injuries/exposures and health hazards. - Assist with investigation of accidents and injuries and manage the documentation including identifying root causes. - Implement environmental policies and procedures in compliance with relevant legislation and corporate requirements. - Additional job duties as assigned - Ensure locations develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and programs tailored to the specific needs of the business unit and aligned with company and regulatory standards. - Ensuring consistent application and adherence to safety protocols across all locations within the region. - Staying up to date on relevant safety regulations and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws. - Guide locations that are working with regulatory agencies to address any safety-related issues or concerns. - Conducting regular safety inspections of workplaces, equipment, and work practices to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues. - Recommend corrective action plans to address identified hazards and ensure a safe working environment. - Ensure that locations are investigating workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root causes and prevent future occurrences. - Analyzing incident data to identify trends and areas for improvement in safety practices. - Providing ongoing support and guidance to business units on safety-related matters. - Promoting a proactive safety culture and focuses on incident prevention and risk reduction. - Communicating safety information, policies, and procedures to business unit employees, managers, and other stakeholders. - Collaborating with other departments, such as operations, human resources, and legal, to address safety-related issues and promote a unified approach to safety. - Preparing and submitting regular reports on regional safety performance to management. - Providing leadership and guidance to site safety managers and supervisors within the region. - Fostering a positive safety culture and empowering employees to prioritize safety in their daily work. - Provide leadership with Key Performance Indicators through EHS, Aon SOPHI, and Broadspire loss runs to assess safety performance of BUs (business units) and platforms as a whole. - Utilize all resources available to Kodiak Risk Management team to assist safety professionals, operations, and company presidents in making sound decisions related to safety and recommendations that will protect employees and BUs bottom line. - Assist BUs in shifting safety culture by learning how each business operates and determining best methods to achieve “buy-in” from employees and middle management. - Plan safety meetings for each region to impact the people safety aspects of Kodiak BUs and empower safety professionals to reduce their Worker’s Compensation losses and foster a safer workplace environment for their employees. Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an environmental and/or safety discipline preferred - 3-5 years operational experience, or equivalent work experience facilitating EHS duties and responsibilities. - Exposure to safety management systems employed by major industrial organizations is a distinct advantage. - Effective people management skills. - Strategic planning and business operations experience. - Works effectively independently. - Previous exposure to project management. - Previous experience in the development and implementation of organization wide training programs. - Well-developed computer skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Willing to influence employees at all levels for safety improvements. - Able to work independently and manage multiple tasks Location: This position is remote in Florida with travel to our Florida Operating Companies 50% of the time.
