About the Role: We are seeking a Systems Engineering Manager to lead and grow our Systems Engineering (SENG) skill community, consisting of a wide variety of domains: System Architecture and Security, DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, and many others. This leader will be responsible for developing engineers, strengthening technical execution, and ensuring high standards of delivery across platform and product initiatives. This role blends people leadership, technical oversight, and operational discipline. The ideal candidate understands how to build durable, efficient, and scalable systems, coach engineers toward technical maturity, and operate in a product-aligned engineering model. You will partner closely with Product Managers, Tech Leads, and other Engineering Managers to ensure predictable, high-quality delivery. Responsibilities: - Manage and mentor Systems Engineers across multiple product initiatives. - Provide clear performance expectations, coaching, and career development. - Foster accountability, ownership, and technical rigor while building a resilient, high-trust engineering culture. - Ensure strong design discipline and drive iterative development with clear demo scripts and early-access validation. - Support scalable system architecture decisions aligned to long-term platform and business goals. - Collaborate with Product and Technical Leads to translate roadmap goals into executable plans. - Strengthen cross-functional alignment and clarity across engineering skill communities. - Reinforce core engineering expectations around documentation, testing, and iterative delivery. - Help mature systems reliability, performance, and scalability practices while modeling clear, concise communication and leadership. Qualifications: - 5+ years of experience in software or systems engineering, with 2+ years leading engineers. - Experience building or operating distributed systems, platform services, or backend systems. - Strong understanding of stable, resilient, and scalable system architecture design. - A bias for taking action to mitigate risks before software and infrastructure is fielded in production. - Demonstrated ability to coach engineers toward higher standards of execution. - Clear, direct communication style with comfort operating in ambiguity. - Experience partnering closely with Product in a product-team model. - Ability to balance technical oversight with empowering autonomy. The Engineering & Grid Planning Advisor supports NRTC member electric cooperatives by providing practical engineering insight, planning support, and implementation guidance that complements NRTC’s smart grid advisory services. This role helps cooperatives translate strategy into action by supporting system studies, planning activities, and project execution while recognizing the operational realities and resource constraints common across the cooperative network. This position operates in a dynamic environment, working across multiple member cooperatives and partnering closely with NRTC advisory teams to deliver exceptional member value.
