Job Description

Director of Product, Payments & Financial Services

RealPage

Overview We are looking for a Director of Fintech Product & Operations to act as the General Manager of our financial services arm. In this role, you will hold the keys to our payments ecosystem, taking full ownership of revenue targets, infrastructure stability, and the long-term product roadmap.   You will sit at the intersection of Product, Engineering, and Finance, tasked with transforming our transaction flows from a utility into a strategic revenue driver. You will manage the "tech behind the bank," optimize our liquidity and ledgering, and architect embedded finance products that directly increase ARPU and Net Revenue Retention (NRR). Responsibilities 1. General Management & Commercial Strategy - Ownership of Performance: Take end‑to‑end accountability for the key performance metrics of our financial services products including hitting revenue targets, optimizing Net Take Rates, and driving margin improvements across all products and payment flows. - Forecasting & Reporting: Partner with Finance to build accurate monthly and quarterly forecasts for payment and services revenue, specifically accounting for real estate seasonality (e.g., peak moving seasons). - Strategic Pricing: Work with Marketing to design pricing strategies that nudge users toward higher-margin payment methods, effectively balancing user experience with company profitability. - New Revenue Streams: Identify, pilot, and launch new services to deepen wallet share. This includes evaluating the feasibility of Credit/Lending products, Insurance-as-a-Service, Commercial Card issuance and other products designed for all personas. 2. Payments Infrastructure & BAU Excellence - Processor Management: Act as the primary lead for our banking partners and payment processors (e.g., Stripe, JP Morgan, Wells). You will own the relationships, negotiate, and manage SLAs. - Infrastructure Optimization: Deep-dive into payment flows to optimize authorization rates, reduce latency, and minimize transaction costs. You will be responsible for the "plumbing" that keeps money moving. - Operational Resilience: Partner closely with our centralized response and incident‑management teams, ensuring the unique complexities of our payments and fintech workstreams are understood, prioritized, and effectively addressed. Act as a strong advocate for our customers and internal stakeholders by providing clear context, elevating fintech‑specific risks, and ensuring coordinated, timely communication during payment failures, processor issues, or service disruptions. 3. Product Roadmap & Growth - Roadmap Leadership: Define the vision for financial services. You will work cross-functionally across all of Product to build and enhance products that reduce friction, expand take rates and increase overall revenue. - Internal Tooling: Champion the build of internal tools that empower Support and Finance teams to handle disputes, chargebacks, and 1099-K reporting. - Go-To-Market: Coordinate with Marketing, Sales and Customer Success to ensure financial products are positioned correctly in the market to maximize adoption. 4. Compliance, Risk & Analytics - Revenue Protection: Partner closely with our Compliance and Risk teams to design and refine fraud detection and prevention strategies. - Regulatory Navigation: Collaboratively shape product experiences that meet regulatory standards while supporting customer needs and minimizing friction. - Data-Driven Insights: Utilize data and visualization tools to perform deep-dive audits on transaction failures, turning technical data into actionable business insights. - Proactive Remediation: Identify deviations from growth targets (e.g., unexpected fee spikes or volume dips). You provide the why and the remediation plan before the board asks. Team Leadership & Organizational Design - Team Management: Direct, mentor, and scale a high-performing product organization consisting of distinct product squads dedicated to growth initiatives and core transactional services. - Resource Allocation: Align the efforts of teams cross-functionally with the overarching financial roadmap, ensuring engineering and design resources are deployed effectively across payment infrastructure, and revenue growth. - Talent Development: Foster a culture of technical empathy and commercial mindset among Product Managers, guiding them in balancing user friction with stringent compliance requirements.   Qualifications - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field. MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred. - Experience: 8+ years of professional experience in Product Management, Fintech Operations, or Payments Strategy. 3+ years of leadership experience managing product roadmaps, P&L targets, or operational teams. - People Leadership: Proven experience managing and scaling product teams, specifically leading multiple squads (PMs, Engineers, Designers) in a matrixed or agile environment. - Demonstrated track record of launching and scaling financial products (e.g., payments, lending, wallets) within a technology company. - Domain Experience: Direct experience managing relationships with payment processors, banking partners, or navigating complex regulatory environments. - Travel: Ability to travel occasionally (approx. 10-15%) for partner meetings, industry conferences, or team offsites. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Required: - Payments Acumen: Deep understanding of US payment rails (ACH, Card, Wires, RTP, FedNow), interchange structures, and banking operations. - Technical Strategy & Translation: Capability to translate complex financial infrastructure (ledgers, settlement timing, API capabilities) into seamless, intuitive product strategies for the wider Product team. - Guides Product Managers on "the art of the possible" within the payments landscape, ensuring the roadmap is ambitious yet grounded in technical reality. - Strategic Thinking: Ability to zoom out and build a 3-year financial services strategy, then zoom in to debug a failed batch settlement file. - Regulatory Competence: Working knowledge of financial compliance frameworks, including KYC/AML, OFAC, and Real Estate Trust Accounting. Ability to design products that balance compliance with user experience. - Data Proficiency: Strong analytical skills with the ability to define North Star metrics (e.g., Net Take Rate, Authorization Health). SQL proficiency highly preferred for independent validation of product hypotheses and transaction data. - Commercial Mindset: Proven ability to own revenue targets and identify "Adjacent Services" (e.g., lending, insurance) that drive Net Revenue Retention (NRR). - Operational Resilience: Skill in designing robust fraud detection frameworks and leading incident response for payment failures or gateway outages without significant downtime.   Physical Demands and Working Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must have the ability to operate a personal computer and express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. May be required to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
