Role Description This position performs moderately complex financial analyses to summarize the organization’s current and projected financial position. This role is responsible for maintaining a complete and accurate general ledger and preparing managerial reports and financial statements. The Accountant ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies while identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and departmental efficiencies. - Prepare, contribute to, and/or review standard and specialized accounting reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP and company policies. - Prepare and record journal entries related to balance sheet and income statement activity. - Create and maintain analytical schedules supporting financial statements, audits, strategic initiatives, and ad hoc requests. - Apply knowledge of accounting principles, GAAP, and relevant regulations to assigned responsibilities. - Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts and perform detailed financial statement variance analyses. - Advise internal departments, field personnel, and external partners on the appropriate handling of transactions with financial impact. - Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance departmental efficiency and strengthen internal controls. - Participate in business requirements development, system design, testing, and issue identification/resolution related to financial systems and strategic initiatives. - Other duties as assigned. Reporting to the Controller, this position is responsible for the accurate accounting, reporting, and compliance oversight of sponsored research revenue for the Foundation. This role ensures revenue recognition aligns with donor intent, award terms, and U.S. GAAP (ASC 958), supports month-end close activities, and partners closely with FP&A, Research Operations and Development teams to provide sound accounting across a diverse portfolio of restricted funding and net asset reporting. This position can be based anywhere in the U.S. and will be expected to work east coast hours (standard business hours are 9:00am – 5:00pmEST).
