Role Description Aetonix is a digital health company building a chronic care management platform for U.S. health systems, clinics, and ACOs. Our product has two faces: - A mobile app that helps Medicare patients (65+) complete simple, guided check-ins. - A desktop app that helps care teams know which patients need them most — and act. This is a full-time remote role based in Canada. We are looking for a Director, Software Engineering to own the end-to-end software development process and lead our engineering squads. You will be responsible for: - Delivery cadence, team development, process discipline, and agile health across a 12-person development organization spanning 4-5 squads. - Reporting directly to the CTO and working closely with product leadership. - Translating engineering strategy into squad-level execution with discipline and consistency. - Building the systems and processes the team runs on, developing the engineers within it, and scaling the organization as we grow. Qualifications - 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including direct management of multiple teams or squads simultaneously. - Track record of improving delivery predictability and team health in a fast-moving product environment. - Experience managing tech leads and senior engineers, not just individual contributors. - Experience adopting/scaling AI-assisted development practices; familiarity with tools like Cursor or Claude Code. - Comfort operating in a regulated or compliance-adjacent environment (HIPAA, SOC2, or equivalent). - Strong process instincts: knowing when to add structure and when structure is the problem. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Familiarity with modern engineering tooling: GitHub, JIRA or equivalent, CI/CD pipelines, and observability stacks. Requirements - Orchestrate with tech leads sprint planning, retrospectives, and other agile processes across the squads. - Identify and resolve delivery blockers before they become missed commitments. - Run structured 1:1s, performance conversations, and career development plans for developers and QA. - Establish and maintain engineering process standards: coding standards, definition of done, PR review policies, defect triage, and change management. - Own QA and release coordination in partnership with the QA manager. - Partner with product management and design to align priorities and sequence work across squads. - Partner with the CTO and Director of Architecture on technical road mapping and long-term technical strategy. THE OPPORTUNITY You'll join our Product Designer as a senior collaborator — expanding our design capacity across the patient mobile app and care‑team desktop app, building our research infrastructure, and setting the craft standard for the team. This is not a people manager role. No direct reports. You'll lead by influence: setting the bar, running continuous discovery, and helping the team grow. You report to the VP of Product. Discovery Partner You have a seat in the product trio — shaping what gets built, not just how it looks. - Participate in product decisions as a full voice, grounded in user insight. - Push back when the problem definition needs more work before solutions are explored. - Frame recommendations in the language of outcomes and impact. Communicator You tell a crisp story that connects the design to the people it serves. - Confidently present design work to executives, cross‑functional colleagues, and innovation partners. - Facilitate sessions using story maps, Opportunity Solution Trees, and assumption maps so product, design, and engineering align on risks and priorities. - Bring patient voices into trade‑off discussions so clinical and patient perspectives shape final decisions. MUST HAVE - Typically 7–10+ years of experience in product design, with a portfolio showing end‑to‑end ownership from research through shipped product. - Hands‑on with AI/ML‑powered product design — you have shipped AI or ML features in production and can explain what “good” looks like. - Background in healthcare, clinical, or regulated software — you understand what HIPAA and clinical workflows mean for design decisions. - Experience scaling a design system (web + mobile) in partnership with other designers and engineers. - Strong research skills: able to run a usability study, synthesize findings quickly, and teach others the process. - Solid accessibility practice baked into your work (keyboard and screen‑reader flows, clear focus states, robust interaction patterns). - Active use of AI design and research tooling (e.g., Claude, Figma Make or equivalents) to accelerate prototyping, synthesis, and research — and teach others to do the same. - Familiarity with product analytics tools (e.g., Amplitude) to uncover usage patterns and inform design decisions. - Experience mentoring and elevating other designers without a management mandate. - Ability to craft compelling design stories that win buy‑in from engineers, clinicians, and executive stakeholders. NICE TO HAVE - Behavioral science experience; designing for habit formation, engagement, or behavior change. - Familiarity with CCM, RPM, or chronic disease management platforms. - AI/ML product design experience in a healthcare or clinical context — conversational interfaces, clinical decision support, or data-heavy dashboards. - WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility expertise in a regulated health context. THE OPPORTUNITY We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to own the product vision, strategy, and execution for Aetonix's chronic care management (CCM) platform. You will shape what we build from the ground up — working directly with engineering, clinical advisors, and US healthcare partners to bring a patient-centered CCM platform to market. This is a 0-to-1 role. You will conduct discovery with real Medicare patients and care teams, make high-stakes decisions with incomplete information, and move from concept to working software in a compressed timeline. You will be the connective tissue between discovery and delivery. WHAT YOU'LL OWN Product ownership. Lead the product trio's discovery-to-delivery process — defining, validating, and shipping solutions to the highest-priority problems identified by leadership. Contribute to strategic direction; execute against it with full autonomy on the ‘how’. Discovery leadership. Design and run research with Medicare patients (65+, multi-chronic conditions) and clinical users (care coordinators, CCM nurses, MAs). Turn ambiguous, mixed-signal evidence into defensible product decisions. AI product development. Build AI-powered features into the platform — clinical decision support, risk stratification, intelligent patient engagement. Own the full AI feature lifecycle in a HIPAA-regulated context. Technical documentation. Write PRDs and technical specifications that reduce ambiguity and enable confident engineering execution across the team. Clinical & regulatory alignment. Work directly with US health system innovation partners on CMS CCM compliance, billing alignment and go-to-market readiness. Cross-functional execution. Partner with Design, Engineering and Product Management team members to align priorities, resolve blockers, and keep delivery moving at startup velocity. MUST HAVE - Demonstrated 0-to-1 build experience — you have defined, built, and launched a product or platform in an early-stage or growth-stage environment. - Healthcare domain expertise: US healthcare delivery, payer dynamics (Medicare/Medicaid, VBC), EHR ecosystems (Epic, Cerner), and clinical workflows. - 7+ years of product management experience with a clear track record of shipped software from concept to production. - AI/ML product experience in a production healthcare product — LLM integration, responsible AI in clinical contexts, and success metrics for AI-driven features. - Technical fluency: able to engage credibly in architecture conversations — REST APIs, microservices, cloud infrastructure (AWS), and healthcare data standards (FHIR R4, HL7). - HIPAA compliance experience and a track record managing PHI-handling products in a regulated environment. - Exceptional PRD and technical documentation skills — you write requirements that reduce ambiguity and enable high-quality engineering execution. NICE TO HAVE - Experience building clinical dashboard or care team workflow products. - Direct experience with CMS CCM billing compliance and Medicare Advantage program mechanics. - RPM device integration experience (Bluetooth/cellular health devices, device-to-platform pipelines). - Prior EHR integration work (Epic App Orchard, SMART on FHIR, Cerner). - Background in value-based care contracting or ACO program operations. Reporting to the Manager, QA, this role is responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of Aetonix's software products through comprehensive testing strategies, automation, and quality advocacy. You will serve as a quality subject matter expert within an assigned development team, driving rapid testing cycles while maintaining high quality standards. You will champion quality best practices and ensure products meet healthcare compliance requirements before release. This is a remote role based in Ottawa, Ontario.
