• Help improve core engineering practices — sprint cadence, code review standards, and release process — and set the example through your own work. • Champion quality, helping define the standards and practices that make sure what Tallo ships works and holds up. • Partner closely with your Engineering Manager so that technical direction and people and delivery priorities reinforce each other. • Champion agile, iterative ways of working grounded in a shared understanding of user goals. • Keep engineering work connected to user outcomes and product goals, not just feature delivery, so teammates understand why they’re building what they build. • Help balance cross-cutting feature work (auth, notifications, shared components) with maintenance and infrastructure work (tech debt, CI/CD, environment improvements), keeping technical priorities aligned to what feature squads need. • Design and evolve technical architecture and standards across the platform, ensuring solutions are secure, performant, scalable, and sound. • Inform build-versus-buy decisions, vendor evaluations, and long-term platform investments through hands-on technical analysis and recommendations. • Build safety and security into the platform by design, helping make sure it protects its users and their data. • Partner with product managers on roadmap priorities, sequencing, and technical feasibility. • Connect engineering effort to Tallo’s company goals of Engagement, Outcomes, and Growth, and to the metrics that track progress against them. • Identify and clear technical blockers to delivery across teams, including dependencies, requirements, and cross-team coordination. • Evaluate realistic AI and ML use cases given Tallo’s data, user base, and product goals, including matching, recommendations, career path prediction, skills inference, and content personalization.
• Own the “why” and the “what.” Translate user needs and business goals into a clearly-framed problem and a crisp definition of success, and then guide the team in owning the “how.” • Collaborate with other product leaders to define the metric that matters. Set the outcome you’re driving toward, instrument it, and measure success by user behavior change over features shipped. • Work lightweight. Use story maps, one-pagers, and just-enough framing to align the team. We favor working software over comprehensive documentation; you won’t get extra credit for writing exhaustive PRDs or hand-detailing acceptance criteria if it’s not actually used by developers and designers. • Partner directly with engineers and designers. Collaborate in real time, every day. • Push for experimentation and validation. Form hypotheses, design the smallest test that produces real learning, and adapt based on evidence. • Ship true MVPs. Know the difference between a real minimum viable test and a watered-down v1. Get something in front of users quickly, then improve. • Prioritize ruthlessly. Protect the team’s capacity for high-leverage work. Say no to good in service of great, and kill work that won’t deliver value (without ego or sunk-cost thinking). • Keep the user at the center. Stay close to real users, synthesize what you learn, and make sure every bet connects back to a user reaching a career milestone. • Use AI as a tool. Lean on AI thoughtfully to move faster and sharpen your thinking, but not as a replacement for talking to users or good judgment.
