Title: Instructional Design and Technology Lead Location: Tempe United States Salary: $80,000.00 Annually Job Description: Sonoran University of Health Sciences seeks a collaborative and solutions-oriented Instructional Design and Technology Lead to support faculty in the delivery of high-quality learning experiences across online and on-ground programs. This role serves as the operational lead for instructional technology and design at Sonoran, helping faculty effectively use the university's learning management system and related educational technologies while ensuring courses meet institutional standards for quality, innovation, usability, and accessibility. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Program Innovation this position partners closely with faculty, IT, and academic leadership to support course development, maintenance, and continuous improvement within Sonoran's learning management system, Canvas. The role leads course quality assurance processes, coordinates course updates and technical implementation, and collaborates with external instructional design consultants and Subject Matter Experts to support new program development and major course redesign initiatives. In addition to supporting existing practices and standards, the role contributes to the ongoing improvement of course design and instructional technology practices across the university. Key Responsibilities Educational Technology Support - Serve as a primary resource for faculty on the effective use of instructional technologies, including Canvas LMS, Panopto, Zoom, MS Teams, and other course delivery tools. - Provide responsive troubleshooting and support for instructional technology issues in both online and on-ground learning environments, escalating issues to IT when appropriate. - Support system integrations and course operations, including syllabi management, course evaluations, and coordination between systems such as Jenzabar, Canvas, Zoom, and Panopto. - Develop and maintain documentation, SOPs, and training resources to support faculty use of instructional technologies and course tools. - Monitor emerging trends in educational technology, including artificial intelligence, and contribute to identifying opportunities to responsibly integrate AI tools into instructional design, course development, and faculty workflows. - Assist with ensuring existing and new courses meeting current accessibility standards. Quality Assurance and Maintenance - Conduct quality assurance reviews of all courses to ensure courses are fully prepared for student access prior to start of each new quarter. - Maintain course structures and organization within Canvas in alignment with university standards, policies, and instructional best practices. - Coordinate and implement course updates in collaboration with faculty and Program Directors, including revisions to modules, assignments, multimedia content, and course navigation. - Monitor course readiness across programs and proactively address technical or structural issues that could impact the student learning experience. Instructional Design and Support - Provide practical instructional design guidance to faculty on course organization, learning activities, and assessment strategies. - Assist faculty in translating subject matter expertise into clear, student-centered course materials. - Deliver training and workshops to faculty to strengthen effective use of instructional technologies and course design practices. - Support faculty in implementing substantive course updates or redesign efforts when needed. Instructional Support Coordination and External Partner Liaison - Lead Sonoran's Instructional Support Team (IST) - Serve as the primary liaison with external instructional design consultants supporting new program development and major course or program redesign initiatives. - Coordinate the integration of externally developed course materials into the LMS to ensure consistency with institutional standards. - Collaborate with academic leadership to identify opportunities to strengthen course quality, accessibility, and instructional technology practices across programs. Qualifications Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, or a related field. - Experience supporting instructional design, educational technology, or course development in higher education. - Experience with the Canvas learning management system. - Experience supporting faculty in the use of instructional technologies such as but not limited to Canvas, CidiLabs Multitool, Panopto, Zoom, Turnitin, Respondus, Panorama. - Strong organizational and project management skills. - Demonstrated ability to translate technical and instructional design concepts into practical guidance for faculty. - Familiarity with emerging educational technologies, including AI-supported tools used in instructional design, course development, or faculty productivity. Summary The College of Nutrition at Sonoran University of Health Sciences is actively seeking Adjunct Clinical Faculty / Clinical Supervisors for our 12-week online Applied Clinical Training Experience (ACTE) courses that are included in the curriculum for the Master's in Applied Clinical Nutrition (MSACN) program. The MSACN is a comprehensive graduate degree program designed to support the complete didactic education and 1,000 hours of Supervised Practice Experience (SPE) needs of students who wish to earn the Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) credential. The Applied Clinical Training Experience (ACTE) is a supervised clinical nutrition practicum delivered in adherence with a personalized nutrition care model that supports students in completing the Supervised Practice Experience (SPE) requirements established by the Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists (BCNS). It also advances students' development as competent and caring evidence-based practitioners of personalized nutrition. The ACTE courses are delivered in adherence with the competencies set by the Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists (BCNS) and are designed for students pursuing the Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) credential. Adjunct clinical faculty supervise Sonoran's online students through timely and effective supervision, mentorship, and communication. Adjunct clinical faculty are assigned responsibilities aligned with their expertise and interact with students using Sonoran's online Learning Management System (LMS) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. The ideal candidate will meet the BCNS standards for Clinical Supervisors and have expertise in the practice of personalized nutrition. Adjunct clinical faculty are active members of the Sonoran community promoting its mission, vision, and core values. Primary Clinical Supervision Responsibilities - Provide clinical supervision for students earning Supervised Practice Experience (SPE) hours in compliance with all BCNS standards and guidelines for Clinical Supervisors and with input from their first-level supervisor. - Provide clinical supervision for students in compliance with Sonoran's MSACN program standards and with input from first level supervisor. - Provide remote supervision through Sonoran's virtual clinic. - Maintain current HIPAA and OSHA certifications and comply with HIPAA and OSHA. (Sonoran University provides access to these mandatory annual trainings to all Clinical Supervisors.) - Comply with all Sonoran clinical policies and procedures, including timely review of chart notes and regularly scheduled supervisor meetings. - Ensure timely and appropriate referral of patients/clients to other healthcare professionals, as necessary. - Perform regular evaluations of student performance. - Hold students accountable to all policies and procedures outlined in the Clinical Handbooks. - Per BCNS guidelines, supervisors must also: - Complete the BCNS Supervisor Approval Application - Complete the ANA Supervisor training - Other duties as assigned Primary Clinical Teaching Responsibilities - Deliver expert clinical knowledge and guidance to students - Serve as a mentor and role model to students - Conduct regular assessments of students' knowledge, skills, and attitudes - Conduct regular assessments of students' progress on BCNS competencies - Provide responses to student inquiries within 24-hours (within 48-hours during holidays or weekends) - Engage in the online EHR portal daily (M-F) - Lead weekly virtual team meetings (Virtual Grand Rounds) with students - Hold on-on-one meeting with students, by appointment - Remain current in the evidence-based practice of clinical nutrition - Ensure clinical care standards remain current, accurate, evidence-based, and relevant - Continuously improve clinical supervision/teaching based on feedback and evolving best practices - Submit feedback and student documentation in a timely manner - Provide timely response to communications by program leadership, preferably within 24-hours - Other duties as assigned Experience - Experience in the practice of evidence-based clinical nutrition - Education and experience demonstrating expert breadth of knowledge to effectively supervise the delivery of evidence-based clinical nutrition in a clinical setting - Experience as a BCNS Supervisor is highly preferred - Experience with telehealth/telemedicine is highly preferred - Previous instructional experience, preferably in an online setting at a college or university, is preferred - Familiarity with online teaching and/or a desire to learn new technological approaches to education - A positive attitude, confidence, integrity, effective oral and written communication skills, honesty, and the ability to inspire - Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding patient/client and candidate issues - Ability to embody Sonoran's core values: We Achieve Excellence, We Love, We Do the Right Thing, We Are Resilient, We Shape the Future.
