Role Description The STS AI & Data Engineering Apprenticeship is a year-long, structured program designed to develop the next generation of AI, data, cloud, and automation professionals through hands-on projects, mentorship, and real-world experience. STS takes an individualized approach — each apprentice receives a customized development roadmap built around their career goals, current skills, and alignment with STS business needs. The program spans three progressive phases: - Foundational skills development - Applied learning alongside experienced STS mentors - Career transition period that supports a smooth entry into a full-time professional consulting role By program completion, apprentices will have the technical, professional, and consulting skills to contribute meaningfully to AI, data, cloud, and digital transformation initiatives at STS and for our federal and commercial clients. The AI & Data Engineering Apprentice at STS will: - Complete structured learning plans covering AI, machine learning, data engineering, cloud platforms, and software development fundamentals. - Participate in hands-on labs, guided exercises, and practical projects to build a strong technical foundation. - Pursue industry certifications in relevant technology areas as outlined in their individualized development roadmap. - Engage in pair programming, collaborative development, and AI solution-building projects alongside experienced STS mentors. - Contribute to internal innovation and automation projects, data engineering initiatives, and cloud modernization efforts. - Develop proficiency with leading AI tools and platforms, including generative AI frameworks, LLMs, cloud services, and data analytics platforms. - Apply responsible AI, data governance, and security best practices throughout all work. - Participate in professional development coaching, career planning, and client engagement preparation activities. - Transition into a full-time STS consulting role upon successful completion of the program, with continued mentorship during the first 90 days of employment. • Design, develop, and maintain automated data quality checks using AWS Glue data quality tools • Perform schema validation for applicable filings prior to ingestion • Monitor production ETL pipelines and ensure ETL Load Reports are populated in real-time • Create, maintain, and execute test cases and automated tests that verify all user-facing platform functionality • Conduct static code analysis and dependency analysis to identify bugs, vulnerabilities, and data quality risks • Support the agency's IV&V process: prepare IV&V Questionnaires, coordinate test submissions • Validate that ETL metadata, data models, data dictionaries, and all required documentation are complete and accurate

• own the deployment infrastructure and security controls for a large-scale federal cloud platform on AWS • Design, build, and maintain the program's CICD pipeline using AWS CloudFormation templates and GitHub • automate deployments to staging and production environments ensuring all deployments execute with a single command • Configure and maintain IAM roles, network controls, and application-layer security controls across development, staging, and production environments • Integrate automated security scanning into the CICD pipeline • Ensure security scans are completed at least once per sprint • Conduct periodic load and performance testing • Support disaster recovery exercises and actual events to ensure production data loads continue as expected • Ensure compliance with FISMA, NIST 800-53, OWASP ASVS Level 2 • Maintain alignment with agency cloud well-architected principles • Participate in 2-week sprint ceremonies, quarterly PI planning, and agile delivery using JIRA and GitHub • Manage the Change Control Board (CCB) submission process.

• Develop new ETL pipelines and data ingestion processes alongside senior engineers using AWS Glue (Spark-based, PySpark), MWAA (Airflow), Lambda, and SNS • Integrate the agency's ETL Common Library into Glue jobs for standardized orchestration, error handling, metadata recording, and SNS notifications for all success and error job events • Ingest structured and semi-structured datasets (CSV, XML, JSON, Avro, pipe-delimited) into S3 landing, raw, and curated zones using Apache Iceberg tables • Configure static ETL metadata in the centralized PostgreSQL metadata store; ensure dynamic metadata records job status and timestamps for all key execution steps • Monitor assigned production jobs and participate in operations support rotations • Ensure ETL Load Reports are populated in real-time and ETL Gap Reports are updated on a weekly basis • Build and maintain materialized views and semantic layer objects in Trino and Athena to ensure optimized query performance and consistent business logic • Produce and maintain required documentation for each assigned dataset: Business Requirements, ETL Design Documents, Data Models, Data Dictionaries, Mapping Documents, Deployment Documents, O&M Guides, and ETL Test Plans • Write unit and integration tests achieving the 90% minimum code coverage threshold; complete security scans at least once per sprint • Deploy ETL resources using CloudFormation templates through the agency CICD pipeline • Support transition of ETL jobs from other agency teams and disaster recovery exercises

• Build and maintain knowledge bases, vector stores, and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using Amazon Bedrock and Amazon OpenSearch Services to make financial and regulatory datasets AI-ready for advanced analytics and machine learning consumption • Support the development, validation, and operationalization of statistical outputs and derived data products; coordinate with the agency data science team and SME data scientists to implement Airflow DAGs and AWS Glue jobs that ensure automated, recurring updates • Support transition of data science outputs into production by validating accuracy, completeness, and reporting readiness; ensure all production data products are incorporated into the agency's ETL load and gap reporting infrastructure • Develop and validate machine learning models and analytical pipelines using large-scale financial and regulatory datasets in the data lake • Leverage AI-assisted development tools for code generation, debugging, and performance tuning; adhere to agency security standards and applicable federal AI governance requirements • Write Python 3.10 code conforming to PEP 8; integrate analytical pipelines with the agency's ETL metadata infrastructure and produce required load and gap reporting outputs • Support entity resolution work to ensure consistent identification and linkage of records across high-volume financial datasets • Produce required documentation for all analytical models and pipelines: methodology, data lineage, model assumptions, refresh schedules, and IV&V Questionnaires • Write automated tests achieving the 90% minimum code coverage threshold; complete security scans at least once per sprint as part of the Definition of Done per OWASP ASVS Level 2 • Participate in 2-week sprint ceremonies, quarterly PI planning, backlog refinement, and agile delivery using JIRA and GitHub

• oversee day-to-day corporate operations across multiple operational support functions • manage the HR Manager and Contracts Manager functions • partner closely with executive leadership to improve operational scalability, compliance maturity, and organizational efficiency • solve technical operational challenges, implement scalable systems, improve workflows, and support growth within a fast-paced federal contracting environment

• Support the Program Manager in overall contract execution and day-to-day management of all contract activities including Enhancement Services, Operations and Maintenance, and Mission Support • Manage the Agile Release Train (ART) and coordinate Program Increment (PI) planning activities across all Agile teams • Facilitate all Agile ceremonies including backlog grooming, PI planning, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, sprint demos, retrospectives, and Scrum of Scrums • Coach Agile teams on Agile principles, values, and best practices in accordance with the Agile Manifesto and TSA approved Agile methodology • Track and report sprint velocity, burndown, burn-up, throughput, and team capacity metrics within 2 business days after the end of each sprint • Deliver weekly Product Backlog and Sprint Backlog status updates to the Program Manager and Government stakeholders • Collaborate across all levels of the program Agile model including Program Management, Enterprise Architecture, Solution and System Architects, Product Management, Agile Teams, System Team, and External Stakeholders • Collaborate with all stakeholders to refine and groom backlog at all organizational levels including Epics, Capabilities, Features, and User Stories • Coordinate and collaborate with testing stakeholders including IV&V, test bed, and end users for Agile/Scrum approach and release processes • Support transition-in activities and provide weekly transition status briefings during the transition period • Ensure all Agile teams adhere to TSA approved Agile methodology such as DevSecOps and SAFe for software development, integration, and testing • Identify and escalate risks, issues, and impediments to the Program Manager and Government stakeholders in a timely manner • Support the Program Manager in preparing for and presenting at monthly Design and Development Program Management Reviews (PMRs) • Maintain the approved ALM and Dashboard tool with current data so reports and charts can be generated as needed by all stakeholders.
