Role Description In support of Containerboard business goals, this position will work collaboratively with mill teams by directing, leading, or working on routine activities and special projects related to environmental, primarily wastewater, operations at designated mills. This position requires someone that will be a good communicator, both in mentoring and listening to the operators and managers to understand potential issues and desires for each mill. - Understand the water quality specifications and chemical treatment programs for each pressure range for the operating boilers. The candidate will know and ensure the IP policies and specifications that guide proper water quality are being applied. The candidate will gain understanding of the different types of boilers and the circulation of water for each. The candidate should recognize potential water quality excursions, and be able to guide others on steps to identify contamination sources, eliminate the problem, and correct trends in water chemistry to resume operation within specification. - A considerable part of the role includes communication and execution of the boiler acid cleaning policy. This includes assisting mill teams with inspections and data acquisition plans to complete annual acid cleaning condition based scorecards. These scorecards are submitted to Power Technology for review and determination of when the boilers should be cleaned based on internal conditions, chemistry control and monitoring, and deposition data. When these cleanings are executed, this role includes onsite support for the plans, recipes, logistics, execution of steps, validation of the cleaning process, flushing, inspections, and startup procedures. - This position requires someone who will develop relationships with specialty chemical suppliers, and will maintain a neutral position with each supplier to benefit IP. This person will participate in the Specialty Chemical Global Sourcing events annually that award new business to mills with renewing contracts. This participation involves reviewing specifications for each mill and review of the bids from participating suppliers to ensure comparable products are being bid for the utility area chemistries. Position Title: Board Solutions Subject Matter Expert (SME) Pay Rate: PL17 $125,900 - $167,800 (PL varies by experience) Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range. Category/Shift: Salaried Full-Time Location: Remote – Ability to travel up to ~80% The Job You Will Perform: The Board Solutions Group works closely with Packaging Solutions of North America (PSNA) to support tactical and strategic initiatives to improve results and drive business strategy to achieve or exceed their targeted performance levels. This involves the use of expertise and leadership gained through years of experience to deliver improvement within the manufacturing system. Board Solutions SME’s work together within all of the PSNA facilities to improve paper machine performance, reduce variability, improve quality and lower manufacturing costs. The Subject Matter Expert (SME) position is accountable for delivering results on a wide range of assignments, short and long-term, across our mill system. The SME must work well with varied teams and be able to quickly engage employees from all levels of the organization from executive to the shop floor, and influence vendors and contractors. The Subject Matter Expert position functions as an internal consultant, and is expected to lead the development of projects and produce improvement in the area of expertise anywhere in the company. The duties range widely between safety leadership, troubleshooting, optimization, teaching, deliberate improvement projects, capital projects, process audits, strategic studies, and mentoring.
