You will build the system, not configure a COTS platform. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree, plus 3 years relevant experience. Requirements - Applicants selected may be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. - U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of work performed within our facilities. Key Responsibilities - Manufacturing Systems Development: - Design and build major components of a custom MES and the broader manufacturing systems landscape, designed to scale from one site to all operations sites. - Apply manufacturing systems standards and patterns (ISA-95, equipment/work hierarchy, genealogy, traceability) within a modern, modular, cloud-native build. - Help evaluate build-versus-buy and implement the decisions that set the foundation for systems that follow. - Take ownership of your assigned scope and deliver it end to end, working with general direction on loosely defined problems. - Grow into broader technical leadership and mentorship as the team scales. - Software Development & Deployment: - Design, develop, test, and deploy full-stack web applications for manufacturing execution, data integration, and operational intelligence. - Build AI-native applications with intelligence embedded from the architecture up. - Develop APIs, data pipelines, and integration layers that connect business systems into a unified data architecture. - Write clean, scalable code with a focus on enterprise-scale deployment across all operations sites. - Deploy in weeks, not months, using modern development tools including AI coding assistants. - Forward Deployed Engineering: - Embed directly with operations users at GDMS sites to understand workflows and define requirements firsthand. - Own your piece end to end: requirements, design, development, deployment, and support. - Translate complex manufacturing processes into working software through rapid prototyping and iterative delivery. - Build for the user, not the specification. The operator's experience matters more than the feature list. - Data Architecture & Integration: - Build data models that capture, normalize, and flow manufacturing data into a central data warehouse. - Build integrations between enterprise systems (ERP, PLM, CMMS, MRO) and shop-floor equipment using industrial protocols (OPC-UA, MQTT) where applicable. - Eliminate shadow data by building systems that capture critical manufacturing data digitally at the point of work. - AI & Emerging Technology: - Embed AI/ML capabilities into applications: predictive quality, anomaly detection, natural language data access, autonomous decision support. - Leverage large language models and AI coding agents as core tools in the development workflow. - Explore emerging manufacturing technologies (IoT, robotics, digital twins, computer vision) for integration into the team's roadmap. - Cross-Functional Collaboration: - Partner with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Facilities, EH&S, Government Property, and all Operations personnel across multiple sites. - Work closely with IT infrastructure teams on cloud deployment, security compliance, and DevSecOps practices. - Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Benefits - An exciting career path with opportunities for continuous learning and development. - Research oriented work, alongside award winning teams developing practical solutions for our nation’s security. - Flexible schedules with every other Friday off work, if desired (9/80 schedule). - Competitive benefits, including 401k matching, flex time off, paid parental leave, healthcare benefits, health & wellness programs, employee resource and social groups, and more. Configuration / Release Engineer

General Dynamics Mission Systems

We develop mission critical solutions for those that lead, serve and protect the world we live in.

DevOps Engineer42 days ago
OtherRemoteMid LevelTeam 10,001+Since 1952H1B No Sponsor

Role Description What You'll Own: - Configuration baselines: Establish and maintain baselines for all AI artifacts — code, prompt libraries, model versions, agent configurations, training datasets, ontologies, policies, and documentation. Every artifact has a version, an owner, and a history. - Release management: Coordinate and control releases across pods. Track what version of what is in which environment. Manage promotion from dev through staging to production. - Change control: Implement change tracking for all AI artifacts. Every change has a record — what changed, who changed it, who approved it, and why. Support audit and compliance requirements. - Rollback capability: Ensure every deployment can be reversed. Build and test rollback procedures so that when something goes wrong in production, recovery is a known process, not an improvisation. - CI/CD pipeline governance: Work with engineers to ensure build, test, and deployment pipelines enforce configuration controls automatically. Controls should be built into the pipeline, not bolted on as a review step. What You Won't Own: - Application development or AI engineering — you control what ships, not what gets built. - Production operations or incident response — that's the SRE's domain. - Business requirements or backlog prioritization. What Makes This Role Different: - AI configuration management is a new discipline. Prompt libraries, model versions, and agent workflows don't fit neatly into traditional CM tools and processes. You will define how it works. - In a defense environment, knowing exactly what is in production is not optional. Audit, compliance, and security all depend on configuration accuracy. Your work is the foundation for all of that. - You will work across multiple pods and enforce consistency without creating bottlenecks. The goal is control that enables velocity, not control that slows it down. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field, plus 8 years of experience. - Production experience with configuration management — you have maintained baselines, managed releases, and controlled changes for software systems in production. - Experience with CI/CD tools and practices — Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar. You understand pipeline-driven deployment and how to build controls into it. - Experience with versioning and artifact management — you have managed more than just source code; configurations, data assets, documentation, or similar. - Strong organizational and documentation skills — your baselines are accurate, your change records are complete, and other people can understand your systems. - U.S. citizenship required. Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Requirements - Experience with AI/ML systems — you understand that AI artifacts (models, prompts, training data) require different CM approaches than traditional software. - Experience in defense, aerospace, or regulated industries where configuration control has compliance implications. - Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and container registry management. - Experience building or improving CM processes — you have designed a configuration management system, not just operated within one. Benefits - Remote — 100% telework. - 9/80 schedule. - Defense industry experience is not required. Salary Note This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled. Combined Salary Range: USD $126,862.00 - USD $137,269.00 /Yr. Role Description The role involves designing and maintaining semantic schemas and knowledge graphs, integrating heterogeneous data sources, and managing ontology governance. - Domain ontologies: Design and maintain semantic schemas that describe key engineering and manufacturing entities — products, BOMs, plants, equipment, processes, work orders — and their relationships across systems. - Knowledge graphs: Implement ontologies using semantic web or graph technologies (RDF/OWL/SHACL/SPARQL or property-graph equivalents like Neo4j). Build, query, validate, and tune knowledge graphs in production. - Data alignment: Integrate heterogeneous data sources — PLM, ERP, MES, CMMS, QMS, data lakes — into a common vocabulary. Align schemas, code sets, and master data to the ontology so AI services see one coherent picture. - Semantic layer: Design the enterprise semantic layer that BI tools, analytics platforms, and AI/LLM applications query consistently. Define core business entities, metrics, and hierarchies and map them to existing data stores. - Ontology governance: Manage versioning, documentation, reuse of industry standards, and enforcement of modeling best practices across pods. Your ontologies are shared assets — they must be maintainable by others. - What You Won't Own: - AI model development or prompt engineering — you provide the data substrate, the AI engineers build on it. - Enterprise system administration — you integrate data from systems, you don't manage them. - Business process decisions — Domain SMEs and the Product Owner define what matters; you model it. - What Makes This Role Different: - Your ontologies directly feed AI systems that make real business decisions. A bad data model doesn't just slow a report — it makes an AI agent reason incorrectly. - You will work across multiple enterprise domains — HR, manufacturing, CRM, supply chain — building a shared knowledge architecture, not siloed data models. - You will collaborate with business SMEs who understand the domain and AI engineers who consume your models. You translate between both worlds. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Science, or a related field, plus 5 years of experience; or Master’s degree plus 3 years of experience. - Hands-on experience with knowledge graph or ontology technologies — RDF/OWL/SHACL/SKOS, SPARQL, and/or graph databases (Neo4j, Stardog, Ontotext, AWS Neptune, or similar). - Experience integrating disparate enterprise data sources into a shared vocabulary or knowledge graph — you have aligned data across systems that use different schemas, code sets, and terminology. - Strong data modeling skills — dimensional modeling, semantic modeling, or formal ontology design applied in production, not just academic settings. - Experience with enterprise data platforms — data warehouses, data lakes, Snowflake, Palantir Foundry, or similar. - S. citizenship required. Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Requirements - Experience building semantic layers or metrics layers consumed by BI, analytics, or AI/LLM applications. - Experience with enterprise systems data (ERP, MES, PLM, CRM) — you understand the data structures these systems produce. - Familiarity with AI/ML data requirements — embeddings, vectorization, retrieval-augmented generation, and how knowledge graphs support LLM reasoning. - Comfortable leading workshops with non-technical business SMEs to capture requirements and iteratively refine data models. - Experience with ontology governance — versioning, documentation, standards reuse across teams or an enterprise. Benefits - Remote — 100% telework. - 9/80 schedule. - Defense industry experience is not required.
