• Lead technical direction and execution during the development, construction, commissioning, and operation of utility-scale and distributed renewable energy assets, including BESS, solar+storage, and hybrid systems. • Serve as the primary electrical engineering point of contact for sophisticated external customers — including hyperscale and colocation data centers, C&I clients, managing technical relationships from early development through commercial operation. • Ensure all projects meet design standards and maintain high-quality engineering designs. Position Overview The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will report directly to the CEO and serve as a key member of the executive team with responsibility for shaping and executing Calibrant Energy’s technology strategy. This leader will set the company’s technology vision and strategy, oversee the development and implementation of new technologies and solutions, and maintain Calibrant’s commitment to superlative levels of reliability and safety. The CTO will work closely with leaders from across the organization to ensure the company’s technology strategy is continually able to meet evolving customer and market needs, while equipping front-end teams with the ability to accelerate project evaluation and deal flow. A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience building high-performing technical teams, evaluating and implementing new technologies, and establishing trusted partnerships. Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Develop and implement the company’s overall technology vision and strategic direction, ensuring it supports business objectives. Evaluate technologies and solutions to enhance energy generation, grid reliability, and cost savings for distributed energy customers including large industrials and data centers. - Analyze market trends and technical advancements to identify best available (and emerging) technologies and products from a techno-economic perspective that results in the strongest value proposition to the market (i.e., factoring in installed capital cost and trends, ongoing operational cost, technical performance and warranties, financial bankability, environmental attributes, supply chain, incentive compliance and tariff exposure). Lead the collection, validation, and prioritization of competing requirements across internal and external stakeholders, and incorporate into technology evaluation and strategy. - Develop and implement sourcing and procurement strategies that align with business goals and ensure technology competitiveness and cost-effectiveness. Manage key supplier partnerships, and lead contract negotiations to secure favorable terms while minimizing risk. Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies, identify opportunities for new customer solutions, product performance/reliability and or cost savings - Oversee product development and launch of new software and/or hardware solutions to support customer requirements, project modeling and underwriting, and facilitate ongoing asset management, and maximize portfolio performance. - Lead technical risk management and implement cybersecurity strategies and measures to ensure Calibrant’s portfolio of energy assets and infrastructure is protected from existing and emerging cyber threats. - Fostering partnerships with industry stakeholders, including standards committees and regulatory bodies to address challenges and promote sustainable energy initiatives. • Drives new Calibrant closed business through direct project modeling and analysis and customer support, including analyzing load data, determining project sizing, costing, simulating expected dispatches, with a demonstrated understanding of regional power markets (e.g., PJM, MISO, ISONE, NYISO, etc.) and how market structures and tariffs impact distributed energy project economics, and managing individual financial models for distributed energy projects to determine optimal customer offerings while maintaining internal returns • Designs and evaluates complex DER solutions – leveraging deep technology and application knowledge of energy storage, solar, and other DERs – for large C&I customers, including multisite portfolios and high load facilities with stringent reliability, uptime, scalability, and long term expansion requirements, as well as constrained or capacity limited sites such as data centers and other high load customers • Provides insight and recommendations across cross functional project teams, including evaluation of BESS value stack tradeoffs across customer side savings, grid services, market based revenue opportunities, performance, risk, and return • Takes on particularly complex or advanced late stage opportunities, providing seasoned project experience – foreseeing challenges, proposing solutions, and providing valuable expertise to enable successful progression to Final Investment Decision (FID) • Drives revenue by clearly communicating the range of solutions and corresponding benefits across the spectrum of performance, cost, risk, and compliance, and quickly and accurately identifies recommended solutions to problems that are not fully constrained to provide value to the customer while maximizing business results • Codevelops strategy and associated tactics for closing Calibrant business within a team environment for a defined geographic region.
