Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or related field, or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, managing backups, snapshots, and data archival
- Management of security and separate environments for development, staging, and production.
- Works with ETL tools, SSIS packages or modern cloud data pipelines, writing and troubleshooting SQL scripts
- Create and maintain indexes, troubleshoot & monitor job execution and system performance issues
- RedGate SQL Toolbelt and SQL Clone or other equivalent query & database admin tools
- SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Tableau or other BI and reporting platform development
- Authoring and troubleshooting SQL statements and other DDL schema
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills for working with both business and technical teams
- Strong experience with Amazon Web Services Relational Database Service (RDS) platforms.

Role Description Peraton is seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals on our Department of State (DOS) Bureau of Diplomatic Technology (DT) Consular Affairs Enterprise Infrastructure Operations (CAEIO) program. CAEIO provides IT Operations and Maintenance to modernize the legacy networks, applications, and databases supporting consular applications and services globally. The Senior DBA will implement and optimize the computerized database systems that support the CA’s ability to function daily and, therefore, enable its mission. Core Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, approximately 8:00 AM ET - 4:00 PM ET (flexible) Location: This position is fully remote; however, candidates must reside in the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Area (DMV) to accommodate occasional onsite meetings, training, or customer support activities at the Washington, DC, customer location or the Peraton office in Sterling, VA. The number of days the DBA works on-site in Washington, DC, or Sterling, VA, is subject to change based on government/program requirements (for example, surge support might require the individual to be in the office five days per week). Roles and Responsibilities - Implement and maintain smooth operation and physical design of databases. - Conduct performance tuning of indexes and databases. - Review database designs and integration of systems; provide backup recovery; and recommend enhancements. - Maintain security and integrity controls. - Manage day-to-day enterprise security hygiene, rapidly executing remediations for high-severity CVEs and actively exploited KEVs to protect core systems and applications. - Formulate policies, procedures, and standards related to database management, and monitor transaction activity and utilization. - Develop stored procedures and triggers. - Administer a variety of database systems, such as Oracle RDBMS, MS SQL Server, Postgres DB, and other Database Management Systems (DBMS). - Develop and enforce database administration and user standards and procedures; audit, modify, and amend data in systems using SQL commands. - Oversee the scheduling of database projects, database and transaction log backups, notifications, and database replication between multiple SQL servers and remote sites. - Help database designers/information system analysts develop and create SQL and Web-based databases and database systems. - Review technical designs, reports, documentation, and other materials produced by staff. - Create and maintain high-level reporting systems using products, such as Oracle OEM BI reports; research and implement new database and online technology. - Apply solid DBA skills to Oracle RAC and Data Guard installation, configuration, and troubleshooting production issues. - Apply advanced methods, theories, and research techniques to investigate and resolve complex system requirements and issues. • Backup & Recovery: Design and implement robust backup strategies that ensure both full and transactional log backups run on schedule. • High-Severity Triage: Act as the primary responder for Sev-1 and Sev-2 database-related incidents. • Performance & Index Tuning: Continuously monitor wait statistics, index fragmentation, and resource-intensive queries. • Capacity & Storage Planning: Track database file growth trends and forecast storage requirements at least 90 days in advance. • Schema & Data Change Management: Review and validate SQL scripts submitted by development teams. • Environment Provisioning: Develop and maintain repeatable scripts and runbooks for provisioning new environments or cloning databases. • Security & Compliance: Implement and enforce best practices for database security, including encryption at rest and in transit, least-privilege access controls, and comprehensive auditing. • Process Improvement: Document and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs). Identify opportunities to automate routine database tasks—such as backups, integrity checks, and deployments.
