Role Description The Senior Design Engineer (SDE) is a lead member of the core team for each Faith & Performance project. The SDE provides direction and oversight through the project life cycle from sales concept to design development, construction drawings to implementation support. As the technical authority on a project team, the SDE is instrumental in the determination and execution of client and system requirements and will collaborate with F&P SME teams as required. The SDE is also responsible for mentoring other design engineers on the project team. Reporting to the Regional Director of Project Engineering, the SDE’s project assignments are determined by Operations Leadership based on enterprise-wide demands. As the final sign off on project bill of materials prior to purchasing, the SDE is responsible for vetting products and making detailed equipment decisions. As the technical leader on a project, the SDE has the authority to recommend direction on scope changes and programming and commissioning activities. The SDE will also be responsible for approving drawing packages being done by other design engineers as well as supervising them in their work. What You’ll Do - Leads complex engagements and works directly with Account Executives, clients, project teams and other DE’s to develop specifications, designs, budgets, timelines and manage expectations. - Negotiates changes in deliverables and schedules and is an escalation point for engineering issues. - May be required to regularly lead teams on large projects. - Conceptualize system designs and determine system requirements. - Provide technical expertise and coordination information to support the architecture, installation and planning of live performance solutions (concert audio, cinematic multi-cam, theatrical stage lighting, house lighting, production IT, intercom, etc). - Develop Faith and Performance project estimates, Bill of Materials (BOM), Bid Response submissions, and project agreements in partnership with the Sales Engineer and Proposal Manager. - Provide regular project engineering milestone status updates to Technical Operations resource planning. - Test, commission, and configure subsystems during project deployment. - Support projects and teams in build phase. - Develop detailed design documentation strategy based on established engineering standard practices. Track engineering team tasks to completion. - Generate functional system descriptions, complete block wiring diagrams, rack elevations, custom plates, or cabling assemblies. - Complete the as-built drawings for service hand-over. - Research, identify, and recommend technology options for clients and projects. - Create Sketchup Models that assist in communicating concepts to the client in the early steps of the sales engagement, as well as being used as the basis for other design deliverables through manufacturers such as loudspeaker systems, camera plots, and house lighting designs. - DE may have client interaction and contribute to the P and L performance. - Project lifecycle is important and learning the standards our clients are comfortable with is just as important as selling new technology and solutions where they fit. - The position bears the responsibility to assist in developing long lasting client partnerships alongside the Sales Engineers & work with team members to maintain the account on all levels. - Maintains expertise in the industry through ongoing review of trade publications, participation in industry trade shows, seminars and educational forums. May author articles and/or analyze trends. - Attend appropriate manufacturer trainings, attend or lead lunch and learns and continue online education. Qualifications - High School Diploma or GED. - Bachelor's Degree preferred. Requirements - 7+ years of professional live audio or video production experience as end user in relevant field. - Mastery of production system technologies with demonstrated specialization in at least one of the major disciplines – concert audio, broadcast video, and/or stage lighting. - Ability to understand, synthesize and create AV system designs. - Understanding of TCP/IP routing, QoS, VLAN’s and Wireless Access Points. - Proficient in MS Office 365 and Apple Pages. - Proficient in MS Excel and similar quoting tools (D-Tools, Jetbuilt, etc) for quote creation. - A thorough, demonstrable understanding of the construction process, installation and integration as well as architectural and construction drawings and specifications. Preferred Skills/Qualifications - Demonstrated knowledge of broadcast technology, equipment, facilities, and production systems used in the Media and Entertainment / Broadcast industry. Formats include high-definition, UHD and HDR video systems deployed using analog, SDI and SMPTE 2110 IP transport protocols. - Detail oriented, independent, self-starter. - Exceptional time management skills with a track record for meeting deadlines. - Excellent communication skills. - Ability to analyze complex issues and communicate concise succinct messages. - High level of problem solving and technical troubleshooting skills. Role Description Responsible for technical engineering and construction analyses of large and complex performance, payment and non-contract surety bond disputes and claims. These functions include analyses, oversight responsibility and resolution. Leads teams of consultants, contractors and others in management and coordination of resolution of major claims. Assists Surety/SDI Claims and/or Underwriting Department in fulfilling objectives of the unit, including audit and administrative functions. Evaluates contractor internal controls structure and job cost systems specifically related to estimating, project management and job site visits on underwriting department engagements. Responsibilities - Responsible for technical and construction analyses of large and complex performance, payment and non-contract surety bond disputes and claims, with some oversight by the Manager, Construction Services or Manager, Construction Consulting Services. - Prepares technical reports and evaluates the surety's loss exposures in all major bond defaults, including: - Site inspections of projects - Evaluation of contract plans and specifications - Expert reports - Construction schedules - Preparation of cost to complete analyses - Supervises and coordinates consultants' investigation, analyses and preparation of default reports. - Makes recommendations as to choice of remedies (default, cure, takeover or relet) and participates in establishing loss and expense reserves. - Assists in drafting, negotiating and settling contractual agreements necessary to discharge surety's obligations, working with Surety Counsel. - Manages project completions by consultants and/or completion contractors. - Advises trial counsel on engineering and construction management issues. - Assists in pre-trial preparation, mediation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution as appropriate, including: - Technical investigative research - Interviewing claimants and witnesses - Acting as an expert witness in technical matters relating to construction contracts, performance and payment bond claims, and financial analysis. - Is a resource to the surety specialists and support staff in coordination with Surety Counsel in resolution of performance, payment and non-contract bond disputes and defaults. - Participates in visits to contractors to assess internal control structure, job cost systems and reporting capabilities. - Reviews project bid-spreads when significant variance is identified by underwriting. - Investigates Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) claims by evaluating circumstances and causes of subcontractor default. - Provides pre-bid technical analysis to Underwriting where the prospective project has unusual and/or atypical elements within the bonded scope of work. - Supports corporate internal audit program to ensure accuracy and adherence to corporate policy and accounting procedures. Qualifications - BA/BS Degree in engineering or related field with a minimum of 7 years progressively more responsible surety claims or construction management experience. - A minimum of 3 years (preferably 5 years) of construction management experience required and 5-7 years of proven surety claims management experience preferred. - Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge claim files. - Demonstrated ability to reduce complex analyses and information into understandable prose and/or oral directives. - Significant exposure to legal process anticipated. - Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills required in dealing with claimants, outside counsel, consultants and members of senior management. - Must be willing to travel and deal with periodic heavy workloads, in an expeditious and professional manner.
