Role Description The Controller oversees the company’s accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and financial integrity across all business functions. This position manages the accounting team and leads the processes for financial close, audits, budgeting, and internal controls. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical accounting skills, a commitment to operational excellence, and the ability to support a dynamic, growing organization. - Direct all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and fixed assets. - Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. - Monitor and analyze financial performance, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions. - Oversee account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end and year-end close processes. - Maintain and enhance internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with GAAP, tax, and regulatory requirements. - Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and coordinate annual financial and program audits. - Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, including labor, tax, and Medicaid program requirements. - Develop and enforce accounting policies and procedures to support accuracy and accountability. - Lead the annual budgeting process in coordination with department leaders. - Support leadership with financial modeling, projections, and cash flow management. - Provide meaningful financial analysis to guide decision-making and resource allocation. - Evaluate and improve accounting systems, processes, and tools for efficiency and scalability. - Partner with IT and operational leaders to streamline financial data flow between systems. - Implement automation and standardization to reduce manual effort and errors. - Supervise and mentor the accounting team; establish clear goals, expectations, and accountability. - Foster a culture of integrity, accuracy, and continuous improvement. - Support professional development and ensure proper training on systems and procedures. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. - CPA required or strongly preferred. Does not need to be current. - 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role. - Deep understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting. - Experience managing audits and working with external auditors. - Strong systems orientation with experience in NetSuite or similar accounting software; ability to evaluate and improve workflows. - Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills. - Experience in healthcare, Medicaid, or government-funded programs preferred, but not required.
