Role Description Chainguard is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead our Internal Developer Platform team — the group that owns CI/CD, developer tooling, infrastructure automation, and our emerging Agentic Engineering Platform, which lets engineers and AI agents build software together. You'll lead a mature team of senior platform and infrastructure engineers, set the technical roadmap for developer productivity and AI-native engineering, and make sure every engineer at Chainguard can ship software quickly, safely, and with less friction. Qualifications - Experience managing software, infrastructure, platform, or SRE teams. - Proven success leading highly experienced engineers. - Strong coaching, communication, and organizational skills. - Champion AI adoption across Engineering by leading through example. - Experience building and operating Internal Developer Platforms, Developer Portals, or similar engineering productivity systems. - Deep understanding of platform engineering principles and developer experience best practices. - Experience introducing AI-assisted software development into engineering organizations. - Familiarity with coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar tools. - Strong background in Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, DevOps, or Platform Engineering. - Strong Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure experience. - Deep experience with GitHub and/or GitLab administration and workflows. - Exceptional ability to work across organizational boundaries. Requirements - Making engineers more productive every day by continuously improving the systems, workflows, tooling, and AI capabilities that support software development across Chainguard. - Creating opinionated, self-service platform capabilities and AI-native engineering workflows. - Owning and evolving our software delivery systems, ensuring builds, testing, releases, and deployments are fast, reliable, secure, and scalable. - Driving operational excellence through SLOs, observability, automation, capacity planning, and continuous improvement. - Owning and evolving Chainguard's Agentic Engineering Platform. - Leading a highly experienced team of senior engineers. - Advancing Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, and platform automation initiatives. - Defining and executing the roadmap for both the Internal Developer Platform and the Agentic Engineering Platform. - Partnering closely with application teams, security teams, and engineering leadership. - Participating in operational reviews, postmortems, and continuous improvement efforts. - Driving the adoption of AI across Engineering. • Work with cross-functional partners including product managers, designers and marketing managers to design and deliver high-quality products across multiple channels that directly contribute to Airbnb’s revenue. • Lead efforts to architect and build technology for serving marketing content to guests and hosts across Airbnb’s stack—including our web frontends, GraphQL API gateway & business logic layer, and storage layer. • Make heavy use of our mature DevAI stack to explore, build and verify your work. • Think user first: you might optimize user experience page performance by improving our rendering layer, or how we fan out and fetch data in the backend. • Work with customers to identify usability issues and proactively fix them. • Build relationships with engineers in product orgs (e.g. Relevance, Stays, Experiences) and partner with them to support company-wide initiatives.

• Own the design and implementation of platform subsystems end to end, from technical design through production and ongoing improvement. • Anchor meaningful projects, making the design tradeoffs that balance reliability, scalability, and time to market. • Write production-ready code aligned with the overall system architecture, with observability, testing, and error handling built in. • Produce clear design docs and work breakdowns that the team can plan and build against. • Mentor SWE and SWE II engineers and contribute to a strong code review culture across the team. • Contribute to technical decisions alongside technical leads, product, and engineering leadership on behalf of the team. • Contribute to the open-source ToolHive codebase and collaborate with community contributors on shared work.

• Build and deliver features across the platform services that make up Stacklok Enterprise, including the runtime, Kubernetes operator, gateway, and registry • Fix bugs and harden platform systems for enterprise production use, improving stability across customer deployments • Write testable, readable code that accounts for edge cases and error handling, and produce clear design docs for the work you take on • Review pull requests and contribute to design discussions, working alongside technical leads, product, and fellow engineers on shared platform efforts • Plan and sequence your own tasks and small epics independently, knowing when to pull in a teammate or escalate a design question • Contribute to the open-source ToolHive codebase and collaborate with community contributors on shared work.
