QA Testing Lead - Workday HCM/Payroll

Role Description Five Below is seeking a senior, hands-on QA Testing Lead to own the entire testing lifecycle for a Workday HCM and Payroll expansion supporting its Puerto Rico workforce. This is a high-impact role requiring full ownership from test strategy through execution, leading end-to-end testing efforts across HCM, payroll, integrations, and UAT while driving accountability across Product, HR, Payroll, Engineering, and third-party vendors. - Own and deliver the end-to-end test strategy, master test plan, and execution roadmap across all phases (Prototype, SIT, E2E, UAT, Payroll Parallel, Regression, Stabilization) - Build detailed test scenarios and scripts across Workday HCM, Payroll, and integrations, including hire-to-retire workflows - Lead execution of full test cycles (functional, integration, regression, and UAT) across systems such as Workday and Legion - Drive parallel payroll testing (2 cycles), reconciling Workday vs. legacy payroll outputs and resolving discrepancies - Validate integrations (EIB, Core Connectors, Studio, APIs), ensuring data accuracy and file format compliance - Manage defect lifecycle: logging, triage, prioritization, root cause analysis, and resolution tracking - Facilitate UAT sessions with HR, Payroll, and Operations stakeholders; own tester coordination and execution tracking - Develop detailed workstream-level execution plans with dependencies, schedules, and accountability mapping - Deliver clear QA reporting, dashboards, and executive-level updates on progress, defects, and risks - Ensure data validation across employee records, payroll inputs/outputs, and financial mappings - Support post-go-live stabilization, regression validation, and first payroll cycle - Build reusable QA assets (test scripts, templates, reconciliation tools) for future releases Qualifications - 7+ years of hands-on experience in HCM systems testing, implementation, or functional consulting - Proven experience leading full QA lifecycle for enterprise HCM/ERP implementations - Strong expertise in Workday HCM and Payroll, including earnings, deductions, tax handling, and payroll reconciliation - Experience executing parallel payroll testing cycles with formal sign-off ownership - Deep knowledge of integration testing (EIB, Core Connectors, Studio, APIs, file-based integrations) - Strong test documentation skills: test plans, scripts, traceability matrices, and defect logs - Experience with UAT leadership across cross-functional business teams - Skilled in defect management using tools such as JIRA, Smartsheet, ServiceNow, or similar - Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical teams - Ability to operate in a hands-on, high-ownership environment Requirements - Experience with Puerto Rico payroll regulations and requirements - Background in retail, distribution, or high-volume hourly workforce environments - Familiarity with Legion WFM or similar systems (Kronos, UKG, ADP) - Experience working with third-party system integrators in Workday implementations
