About HalterAt Halter, we’re on a mission to enable farmers and graziers to run the most productive and sustainable operations. Our customers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional practices. Imagine watching 500 cattle stand up and walk calmly towards their next break? No quad bikes, no dogs, no fences. Just a group of cattle walking at their own pace. People say it looks like magic. Our customers are revolutionizing grazing with Halter. It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you’ll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We’re committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn’t easy, and in truth, we love that it’s hard. We’re backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures. To find out more, visit our LinkedIn & Instagram. At Halter, we're building world-class virtual fencing technology that transforms the way farmers and ranchers work. We tackle complex, real-world problems with technical solutions, helping farmers lift productivity, care for their animals, and farm more sustainably. We're looking for a Data Analyst to join our virtual fencing research and development team. This is a great role for someone who's passionate about data, loves to fully understand their domain, and thrives on problem solving. This role is more than a typical data analyst role and extends beyond analysis in many ways. You'll become an expert in virtual fencing, understanding the technology inside out and how animals interact with it. You’ll extend into data engineering, work close to (maybe even in) the backend, so we're after someone keen to push the boundaries of what a data analyst role can be. This role will be based at our Auckland HQ and will sometimes require travel to our R&D farm in Morrinsville. About the roleYou’ll work as part of a small focused R&D team that is continuously improving the way we virtually fence and shift animals across the globe. You’ll spend plenty of time writing queries and crunching the numbers at HQ, but you’ll also be out on the farm observing cows and building your understanding of animal behavior and our product. Together with our other Data Analyst in the team you’ll own the guidance data domain. You’ll provide insights, run trials and proactively identify opportunities for improvement. You'll work with both internal and external partners to enable and support research into the virtual fencing domain. - You're highly curious and thrive on solving hard problems. You're not afraid to ask questions, think outside the box, and go beyond the scope of what's been asked to make sure your analysis is comprehensive. - You have strong analytical and statistical skills, with a good awareness of common statistical traps that can introduce bias. You bring scientific rigour and accuracy to your work, and you're able to sniff out inconsistencies in data and follow them through to root causes. - You're comfortable using a variety of tools (e.g. SQL, Python, R) to query, analyse and visualise data, and you're keen to extend into data engineering and work close to the backend. - You're a hard worker and a quick learner. Our problems require deep knowledge of cow behaviour and our internal systems. You don't need to start with a background in these areas, but you'll need a proven ability to learn fast and a genuine hunger to do so. - You're an effective collaborator and a great teammate. You'll work with all sorts of people, both internal and external, and you'll need to adjust your approach and communication depending on the audience. - You have a bias for action and are comfortable operating in ambiguity. You break down complex problems using first principles, ask the right questions, and find a practical way forward. - You have strong demonstrated experience in a data analysis role, and/or a tertiary degree in statistics or a related field. - Curiosity beyond technology and into farming will be a strong motivation for you. Our farmers expect us to know farming as well as they do, understand why they do what they do, and identify where they can do it better. Our Benefits - Delicious snacks and drinks are available for your daily flow. - Healthy body, healthy mind. We’re partnered with Southern Cross Health Insurance to support your well-being. - We offer 6 months of fully paid parental leave for primary caregivers, 4 weeks of fully paid secondary caregiver leave and many other parental benefits that support you and your family. - Our personal growth is important. Halter offers an annual $1000 self-development budget to be used for anything that fuels personal growth. - Our time to recharge is valued, we’re offered wellness leave and unlimited paid annual leave. - Importantly, we offer an inclusive and attractive remuneration package made up of salary, benefits and an employee stock ownership plan. Our Office First ApproachThere’s a reason you visit your friends in person, live with your family and don’t do dinners over Zoom. Humans are wired for connection. We believe a world-class, in-person office culture is the best way for high-performing teams. Being office first is a core pillar of our culture. We believe in-person connections are key to driving your own growth, learning, impact, and building genuine long-lasting relationships. This means working from the office everyday is our default setting, but we flex when we need to. We have a high-trust culture, so everyone is trusted to do what’s best for Halter. Our office vibe is something special, it’s hard to describe until you’re here, but people at Halter who have come from fully remote or hybrid companies say they could never go back - the high energy and spectacular people they are now surrounded by everyday makes work so enjoyable. Your growth, your learning and your impact is truly unlimited here, and a big part of that comes from being together solving problems, innovating, building context, and constantly learning from each other.
