Senior Software Developer
Really Great Reading
Role Description Really Great Reading is building a new platform that will launch soon! In the meantime, we have assembled a dedicated, agile team—a Tech Lead, a DevOps engineer, and two developers—to ensure the stability, security, and continued evolution of our current RGR application. As a Senior Software Developer, you will spend the large majority of your time hands-on, building and maintaining features across our stack. You will work closely with our Tech Lead, who sets priorities and reviews work, and collaborate directly with the other developer on the team. As timing and project milestones allow, you will also collaborate with the engineering team building our next-generation platform. This role is a perfect fit for an experienced engineer who thrives on ownership, ships dependable and highly secure production code, and excels at structured, written communication in a fully remote environment. What You’ll Do - Build & Evolve the Current RGR Application - Develop, maintain, and optimize features across our stack, utilizing Django/Python on the backend and React/TypeScript on the frontend. - Ensure the high availability, performance, and security of the current application through the launch of the new platform. - Participate in application support, active incident response, and prompt resolution of production issues. - Write clean, well-tested, production-quality code, and actively document legacy systems and workflows to prevent knowledge silos. - Uphold Engineering Quality & Best Practices - Participate actively in peer code reviews, ensuring code meets shared quality, performance, and security benchmarks. - Work independently on assigned features from scoping through deployment, while maintaining tight alignment with the Tech Lead on scope boundaries. - Share technical knowledge with the team and contribute to a highly collaborative, growth-oriented, and rigorous engineering culture. - Contribute to the New Platform (As Needed) - Partner with the new platform development team to assist with feature alignment and technical transition points. - Participate in deployments, schema changes, and complex data migrations to ensure absolute service continuity for our educators and students. - Contribute high-quality code, modern CI/CD pipeline improvements, and architectural best practices to the emerging ecosystem. Requirements - 5+ years of full-stack software development experience. - Strong command of Python back-end development (Django, Django REST Framework, Celery). - Strong command of React front-end development with TypeScript and Redux. - Experience with PostgreSQL, REST APIs, and OAuth2 / JWT authentication. - Comfort with Docker, AWS (S3, Lambda), and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions). - Familiarity with asynchronous and real-time architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, WebSockets, Redis). - Excellent written communication and strong autonomy in a 100% remote environment. Nice to Have - Experience mentoring or supporting other developers. - Experience in education or educational technology (EdTech). - Multimedia streaming (Video.js, dash.js, Vimeo), animations (Rive, Lottie, GSAP), and generative AI (OpenAI). - Document generation and image/video processing (WeasyPrint, Pillow, OpenCV). - Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Terraform, or Kubernetes. - French–English bilingualism; familiarity with FERPA, COPPA, or SOC 2. Benefits - Competitive compensation, five (5) weeks of paid time off, and vacation pay in accordance with Quebec legislation. - Basic health insurance and statutory holidays recognized in Quebec. - Retirement benefits offered according to your jurisdiction. - Ongoing professional development and wellness initiatives. - Fully remote position. - All benefits are subject to applicable laws in Quebec and Canada and may be amended in accordance with those laws.

Role Description Own the engine that turns every investigation into a compounding asset: the more the platform runs, the sharper it gets. This is applied ML systems, not research. If your goal is training foundation models from scratch and publishing, this is not the seat. Location: Remote (4h overlap with Pacific or IST; Seattle or Bengaluru on-site preferred). Full-time. Qualifications - 10+ years of relevant engineering experience. - Production ML systems experience end to end: data pipelines, fine-tuning, eval, deployment. - Hands-on fine-tuning and distillation with open-weight models (Qwen, Llama-class). - Eval harness design for correctness-sensitive tasks, including trajectory-level evals for agentic and tool-use systems. - Inference deployment and scaling (vLLM or equivalent) on managed platforms. - Proficient in day-to-day work with CLI-based AI coding tools like Claude Code (or an equivalent). Requirements - Instrument the product so every investigation, especially human-corrected ones, becomes structured training data. - Build the eval harness for diagnostic accuracy. Root-cause correctness has to be measured, not eyeballed. - Distill expensive deep-investigation runs into small, fine-tuned models that hold the quality bar at a fraction of the cost. - Deploy inference, including on-prem and airgapped SLMs for customers whose logs cannot leave their environment. Benefits - Agent or tool-use systems. - Preference optimization (DPO/GRPO-style) and structured-output / function-calling fine-tunes. - On-prem or airgapped model deployment. - Retrieval over large heterogeneous corpora. - Systems or infra background. In your application, tell us what you'd own here, and the hardest thing you've shipped in this domain.
Role Description - Manage and monitor team status, project timelines, and detailed tasks. - Support your team in providing technical and project guidance to solve complex problems and make sound technical decisions. - Conduct code reviews and quality assurance activities to uphold team standards. - Collaborate with stakeholders and Product Management to ensure successful project delivery. - Provide coaching, feedback, and career development opportunities to ensure high levels of team performance. - Evaluate and refine development processes, tools, and methodologies to achieve better results. Qualifications - Worked for 8+ years as a developer and 5+ years as a development manager. - Have a strong technical background in software engineering, with proficiency in programming languages, frameworks, infrastructure, and development tools including proven experience with Jira and git. - Have strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. - Enjoy mentoring and optimizing team performance to achieve spectacular results. - Can prioritize competing demands, delegate tasks effectively and make informed decisions under pressure. - Earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science, or a related field or have equivalent work experience.
