Security Benefit Business Services / Everly LifeSecurity Benefit is a leader in the U.S. retirement market with more than $60 billion in assets under management. We offer opportunities to thrive, innovate, and make an impact. Named to Ward’s 50 list of top-performing life-health insurance companies Recognized on the list of Ingram’s Top 100 Private Companies in the Kansas City area in 2024
Role Description We are seeking a Senior Full Stack Developer to design, build, and own critical components of our next-generation insurance platform. This role sits at the intersection of hands-on engineering, AI-assisted development, and domain-driven architecture. You will be a key individual contributor who leads the technical design of platform capabilities, writes production-grade code, and drives delivery end-to-end alongside a small, high-velocity team. You will partner closely with the Product Owner, Solution Architect, and fellow engineers to translate complex insurance domain requirements into scalable, secure, and observable microservices. You will build across the full stack and engineering standards — APIs, event-driven integrations, data pipelines, and self-service portals. What You’ll Do - Lead technical design of platform capabilities — defining service contracts, event schemas, and data models before a line of code is written. - Own the hands-on build, test and support — write, review, test and ship production-ready services from greenfield to live, taking full accountability for quality, delivery and production support. - Drive API-first, event-driven architecture ensuring all services and integrations follow agreed platform patterns and governance standards. - Embed AI-assisted engineering practices into the daily development workflow to accelerate velocity, improve code quality, and enforce platform consistency. - Design and deliver integrations with the policy administration system and all upstream and downstream service dependencies. - Implement durable workflow solutions for complex, long-running insurance processes like underwriting, policy issuance, etc. - Collaborate with the Product Owner and Solution Architect to decompose requirements, make sound trade-offs, and align engineering decisions to business outcomes. - Build secure, compliant services by design embedding identity, access control, encryption, and regulatory compliance patterns into every component from day one. - Own data and testing quality across persistence, calculation logic, and validation suites — ensuring correctness is provable, not assumed. - Set the engineering bar through code and architecture reviews, platform standards ownership, and unblocking the team in a fast-moving, production-first culture. Qualifications - Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience. - 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong record of owning and delivering production systems end-to-end, including hands-on design leadership. - Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript / Node.js with deep experience building and operating microservices on cloud-native container infrastructure. - Proven hands-on experience with event-driven architecture. - Fluency in AI-assisted development tooling and an active habit of using it to generate, validate, and refactor code as part of the standard engineering workflow. - Strong proficiency across both document and relational database models. - Deep understanding of Zero Trust security patterns. - Strong testing discipline across unit, integration, E2E, and performance testing. Preferred - Experience in insurance or fintech — new business, underwriting, policy administration, billing, claims, or compliance domains. - Exposure to HIPAA, SOC2, or PCI-DSS compliance requirements in a shipping product, including SAST/SCA/DAST tooling integrated into CI pipelines. - Experience in high-growth startups or scaling organizations where you have had to build fast and to a high production quality standard simultaneously. Benefits - Employees are eligible for an annual incentive bonus designed to reward for performance. - The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $150,000 to $182,000. - Flexible paid time off for PTO, plus paid holidays, days of Significance, and a Volunteer Day. - Paid parental leave eligible after 3 months of service. - Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance. - 401k with company match. - Profit Sharing & Savings Plan. - Short-term and long-term disability insurance. - Flexible spending account. - Life insurance. - Educational Assistance. - Associate Assistance Programs and more!

Security Benefit Business Services / Everly LifeSecurity Benefit is a leader in the U.S. retirement market with more than $60 billion in assets under management. We offer opportunities to thrive, innovate, and make an impact. Named to Ward’s 50 list of top-performing life-health insurance companies Recognized on the list of Ingram’s Top 100 Private Companies in the Kansas City area in 2024
Role Description We are seeking a Full Stack Developer to build, test, and support key components of our next-generation insurance platform. This is a hands-on engineering role where you will contribute across the full stack — APIs, event-driven integrations, data pipelines, and self-service portals — working within an established architecture alongside a small, high-velocity team. You will work closely with the Product Owner, Solution Architect, and Senior Engineers to translate well-defined requirements into clean, testable, production-ready code. You will be guided by architectural patterns and platform standards that are already in place, with growing opportunity to contribute to design decisions as you deepen your domain knowledge. The ideal candidate brings solid full-stack engineering fundamentals, an openness to AI-assisted development tooling, and a genuine eagerness to learn the insurance domain. You don’t need to have all the answers — but you must be curious, thorough, and committed to shipping things that work correctly in production. What You’ll Do - Contribute to the build of platform capabilities — writing clean, well-tested code that follows established service contracts, event schemas, and data models. - Build, test, and support services across their full lifecycle, from initial development through to production, taking accountability for the quality of your own work. - Work within API-first, event-driven patterns following agreed platform architecture and governance standards under the guidance of engineering lead. - Use AI-assisted engineering tools as a standard part of your daily workflow to write, validate, and refactor code more effectively. - Implement integrations with the policy administration system and internal service dependencies, following established patterns and contracts. - Build out workflow features that support insurance processes such as underwriting and policy issuance, working from well-scoped requirements. - Collaborate with the Product Owner, Solution Architect, and teammates to understand requirements clearly, ask good questions, and flag risks early. - Apply security and compliance patterns — identity, access control, encryption, and data handling — consistently and correctly in every feature you deliver. - Maintain testing quality writing unit, integration, and E2E tests as part of every piece of work. - Participate in code reviews giving and receiving feedback constructively. Qualifications - Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience. - 5+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of delivering features end-to-end on a production system. - Solid proficiency in TypeScript / Node.js and practical experience building and deploying services on cloud-native infrastructure. - Working experience with event-driven or asynchronous integration patterns and an understanding of why they matter in distributed systems. - Comfort using AI-assisted development tooling in day-to-day engineering work and a willingness to make it a core part of how you operate. - Familiarity with both document and relational database models, and the ability to write correct, efficient queries against each. - Foundational understanding of security and compliance practices — authentication, authorisation, secrets handling, and secure data storage. - Disciplined approach to testing — unit, integration, and E2E — with the habit of writing tests alongside code, not after. Preferred - Exposure to insurance or fintech — even as a user or in an adjacent role — and genuine curiosity to go deeper in the domain. - Some familiarity with compliance-aware development — HIPAA, SOC2, or PCI-DSS — and what it means in practice for a shipping product. - Experience working in a startup or scaling team where you have had to pick things up quickly and deliver without a lot of hand-holding. Benefits - Employees are eligible for an annual incentive bonus designed to reward for performance. - The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $115,000 to $138,000. - 33 days of paid time off for PTO, paid holidays, Days of Significance, and a Volunteer Day. - Paid parental leave eligible after 3 months of service. - Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance. - 401k with company match. - Profit Sharing & Savings Plan. - Short-term and long-term disability insurance. - Flexible spending account. - Life insurance. - Educational Assistance. - Associate Assistance Programs and more!
