Fund Controller

NFX

Reports to: CFO The Opportunity As Fund Controller, you will partner with the CFO to help lead and scale NFX’s fund finance function as we grow our platform and assets under management. You will own end-to-end fund accounting and reporting across our venture funds, partnering closely with internal stakeholders and external providers. You will also work in close partnership with our Management Company (ManCo) Controller, with intentional overlap in key workflows to provide strong controls, continuity, and a built-in second set of eyes—while gaining exposure across both fund and ManCo finance. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Leadership & Management Help design and maintain a high-performing finance team with scalable processes. Serve as a strategic thought partner to the CFO, COO, General Counsel, and investment team. Fund Accounting Own full-cycle US GAAP accounting and record keeping for the funds and related entities (including capital activity and partner allocations). Manage outsourced fund administrators; review capital calls, distributions, quarterly closes/work papers, financial statements, and partner capital statements. Valuations & Portfolio Reporting Help run the quarterly valuation and fair value process in partnership with the investment team (process management, support, documentation, and controls). Manage the outsourced fund administrator's quarterly LP/GP reporting process, packages, NAV, IRR, MOIC, and other financial metrics. Help prepare and review any ad-hoc analyses for fundraising, portfolio management, etc. Compliance, Audit & Tax Coordinate annual audits and support tax filings for all fund entities; liaise with auditors and tax advisors. Coordinate compliance reporting and other regulatory requirements, partnering with internal and external stakeholders. Job Requirements

  • Treasury & FP&A
  • Aid in the budgeting, forecasting, and cash-management across funds.
  • Deliver thoughtful and decision-supporting analysis on fee income, carry waterfalls, liquidity/cash runway, and other operating KPIs.
  • Systems & Process Improvement
  • Help administer and optimize NFX’s finance tech stack (QuickBooks, Allvue, Cobalt, Carta, Excel, and internal systems) and help automate reporting workflows.
  • Champion data quality and operational excellence across the finance and accounting organization.
  • Ideal Candidate
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business management.
  • Experience: 6–10 years, including a mix of public accounting/fund administration and hands-on venture capital/private-equity fund and management-company accounting.
  • Credentials: CPA and MBA or equivalent are a plus.
  • Proven success managing outsourced fund administrators and building scalable processes.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, partnership accounting, and valuation methodologies.
  • Highly motivated and detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Advanced Excel and experience with QuickBooks, Allvue, Cobalt, and other reporting/analytics tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate complex financial concepts for non-finance audiences.
