Lead Electrical Design Engineer
Industrial Electric ManufacturingIEM's engineering data tells a real operational story - multi-stage design handoffs across electrical and mechanical teams, 200+ engineers across three campuses, and constant pressure to release against customer production schedules. The numbers are live, the stakes are concrete, and there's meaningful work to do in getting the data foundation right before layering more analytics on top of it. If you want a role where your value is in what you understand, not just what you build, this is it.
Role Description The Electrical Engineering Lead is responsible for driving the electrical design and engineering effort across customer programs, with a strong focus on hyperscaler data center infrastructure. This role owns the technical review of customer requirements, engineering drawings, plans, and specifications, and leads cross-functional design reviews with Sales, Manufacturing, and end users to ensure designs are accurate, manufacturable, and aligned with customer intent. The ideal candidate brings deep experience with hyperscale data center builds, including power skids and e-houses, and is comfortable acting as the technical authority across the full project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities - Review and interpret customer requirements, engineering drawings, plans, and specifications to ensure electrical designs meet contractual and technical intent. - Lead cross-functional design reviews, coordinating input and alignment from Sales, Manufacturing, and end-user stakeholders. - Serve as the primary electrical engineering point of contact for hyperscaler data center build programs, including skid and e-house electrical systems. - Develop, review, and approve electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, panel layouts, and control system designs. - Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards (NEC, IEEE, NEMA, UL), and customer-specific technical requirements. - Partner with Manufacturing to resolve constructability issues and support design-for-manufacturability initiatives. - Support Sales and proposal teams with technical scoping, cost estimation input, and risk identification during the bid phase. - Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level electrical engineers. - Travel to customer sites, manufacturing facilities, and project locations as needed (up to 30%) to support design reviews, site walks, and commissioning support. - Identify and drive resolution of technical issues arising during design, fabrication, and field deployment. - Maintain and improve internal design standards, templates, and best practices for electrical engineering deliverables. Qualifications - 15+ years of applicable electrical engineering experience, including significant experience in a lead or senior technical role. - Demonstrated experience with hyperscaler data center builds, specifically involving power skids and e-houses. - Strong working knowledge of medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems. - Proven ability to lead cross-functional design reviews with internal and external stakeholders. - Experience reviewing and interpreting customer specifications, drawings, and contractual technical requirements. - Strong understanding of applicable electrical codes and industry standards (NEC, IEEE, NEMA, UL, etc.). - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical detail for non-technical stakeholders (e.g., Sales). - Willingness and ability to travel up to 30%. Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent applicable experience). - Professional Engineer (PE) license. - Experience with modular/prefabricated electrical equipment design and manufacturing processes. - Familiarity with data center commissioning processes and documentation. Benefits - Comprehensive and competitive benefits package designed to support employees' well-being, growth, and long-term success.
