Job Description
Physician - Deputy Director
Palo Alto VA Medical Center
Role Description The Deputy Director, VHA National Teleradiology Program (NTP) will oversee all NTP clinical and quality assurance operations, supervising and working in collaboration with the NTP Chief Quality Officer, Chief Medical Officer, and Director of Mammography. In addition, the incumbent will assist the NTP Executive Director in the overall planning, direction, management, and evaluation of NTP strategy and operations. - Oversee all clinical operations at NTP. - Supervise and collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Quality Officer, and Director of Mammography. - Set policy and workflow while maintaining an emphasis on VA core values. - Responsible for NTP Quality policy and implementation of national quality improvement initiatives. - Collaborate with the Executive Director to implement organizational vision and set strategic priorities. - Forecast volume expectations and staffing shortages. - Ensure adherence to HIPM and VA standards for patient data privacy and confidentiality. - Oversee recruitment of radiologist staff, fee basis, and contractors. - Set a duty roster for continuous radiology services (24/7/365). - Serve as the NTP representative for national initiatives or meetings. - Assess and authorize or decline workflow requests exceeding Memorandums of Understanding. - Investigate reporting incidents or deviations to the Executive Director. - Set interpretation prices for client cost transfers and salaries for staff. - Maintain an active clinical practice when not engaged in administrative duties. Qualifications - Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution. - United States Citizenship. - Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. - Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. - Proficiency in spoken and written English. - Board certification in Diagnostic Radiology. Requirements - Physical examination prior to placement is required. - Designated drug testing position; subject to random testing for illegal drug use. - Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours; kneeling. - Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. - Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. - Hearing aid is permitted. Benefits - Full-time schedule to be determined by supervisor. - Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases. - 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, and possible 5 day paid absence for CME). - Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% contributions by VA. - Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care insurance (many programs can be carried into retirement). - Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement for CME (must be full-time with board certification). - Free liability protection with tail coverage provided. - No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
