Role Description Koniag IT Systems, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Database Developer to support KITS and our government customer. The position is remote and requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Public Trust. The Database Developer will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining data systems to support business needs. Knowledge of tools like dbt or simple orchestration (e.g., Airflow basics) is a plus. - Data Quality & Testing: Implementing checks, validation, and monitoring for pipelines. - Version Control & Collaboration: Git for code (Python + SQL scripts), plus experience with CI/CD basics. - Performance & Scalability: Tuning for large volumes, understanding indexing/partitioning impacts, and basic cloud database concepts. - Soft Skills: Problem-solving for debugging complex queries/pipelines, clear documentation of models and procedures, and ability to collaborate with team members. - Data Modeling: Strong experience in designing relational schemas, Entity-Relationship (ER) modeling, dimensional modeling, and understanding trade-offs between normalization vs. denormalization. - Advanced SQL & Database Querying: Mastery of complex queries, query optimization, and performance tuning. - Database Administration & Objects: Creating and managing stored procedures, optimizing views, and other DBA tasks. - Python Programming for Data Engineering: Solid proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and data manipulation. - Relational Database Experience: Hands-on work with at least one major RDBMS (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL). - Other Key Skills: Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities with attention to detail, strong communication and collaboration skills. Role Description The Linux and Database Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing Linux‑based systems and enterprise databases across production and non‑production environments. This role includes: - Monitoring server performance and ensuring system availability. - Performing database tuning and maintaining secure, reliable infrastructure operations. - Installing, configuring, and updating Linux systems and database applications. - Troubleshooting issues and analyzing system logs. - Implementing cybersecurity measures such as access control, backup procedures, and recovery strategies. - Configuring servers and databases, designing and maintaining database structures across multiple platforms. - Preserving data integrity and optimizing database access and resource allocation for performance. - Developing and implementing database backup and recovery strategies. - Collaborating with developers, technical managers, and analysts to support new systems and services. - Developing solutions that improve system efficiency. • Administer, monitor, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments across the enterprise estate. • Define and promote database standards, governance, and best practices across the organization. • Contribute to the design of data architectures, including data integration approaches, schema development, data quality, storage decisions, and performance considerations. • Install, configure, patch, and manage SQL Server and related database products. • Own and improve backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures to ensure operational continuity. • Implement and maintain database security controls in line with enterprise and regulatory requirements. • Drive performance tuning, query optimization, archiving, and broader data lifecycle management. • Act as an SME on SQL scalability and advanced data storage topics, planning and executing enhancement initiatives. • Define non-functional requirements (NFRs) for new services during the design phase. • Participate in technical design discussions and represent operational and platform considerations. • Support low-level solution design for new products and technology implementations. • Provide troubleshooting, consulting, and technical support to development and wider IT teams. • Improve legacy database environments through analysis, modernization, and operational refinement. • Share knowledge with the wider infrastructure team through documentation, technical overviews, and collaborative support.
