• Administer, monitor, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments across the enterprise estate. • Define and promote database standards, governance, and best practices across the organization. • Contribute to the design of data architectures, including data integration approaches, schema development, data quality, storage decisions, and performance considerations. • Install, configure, patch, and manage SQL Server and related database products. • Own and improve backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures to ensure operational continuity. • Implement and maintain database security controls in line with enterprise and regulatory requirements. • Drive performance tuning, query optimization, archiving, and broader data lifecycle management. • Act as an SME on SQL scalability and advanced data storage topics, planning and executing enhancement initiatives. • Define non-functional requirements (NFRs) for new services during the design phase. • Participate in technical design discussions and represent operational and platform considerations. • Support low-level solution design for new products and technology implementations. • Provide troubleshooting, consulting, and technical support to development and wider IT teams. • Improve legacy database environments through analysis, modernization, and operational refinement. • Share knowledge with the wider infrastructure team through documentation, technical overviews, and collaborative support.
Job Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise-scale environments.
- Proven background in database monitoring, backup/recovery, patching, security, and performance tuning.
- Experience with high-availability, resilience, and scalability across database platforms.
- Solid understanding of database architecture, schema design, and data integration principles.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Experience in complex, business-critical infrastructures with strong operational requirements.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with architecture, infrastructure, and engineering teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Nice to have: Experience in regulated environments, especially financial services.
- Exposure to DevOps / DevSecOps practices.
- Experience acting as a SQL Cloud Technology SME.
- Microsoft certifications.
- Experience contributing to architectural decisions and non-functional design requirements.
- Exposure to legacy estate modernization initiatives.

Role Description We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to support database management initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and experience in SQL Server administration across Microsoft Azure and on-premises environments. Proven expertise supporting Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 databases is a plus. This role involves managing all aspects of database administration, including: - Planning - Installation - Configuration - Security - Optimization - Monitoring - Disaster recovery - Performance tuning of SQL Server databases The candidate should also have strong T-SQL development skills to maintain, optimize and automate processes. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology (advanced degree preferred). - Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing and administering enterprise-level SQL databases in SQL Server 2016 or 2017. - Minimum of two (2) years of experience designing and deploying Azure SQL Database PaaS solutions in Microsoft Azure. - Minimum of five (5) years of experience planning and implementing MS SQL database disaster recovery for enterprise-level applications. - Proficiency in physical database design, database changes, enforcement of data integrity, and security management. - Strong knowledge of query languages, particularly T-SQL, with the ability to write and optimize complex queries and stored procedures. - Familiarity with database replication, clustering, and failover strategies. - Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database-related issues, collaborating effectively across functional teams. - Experience installing, configuring, and patching database management systems and software. - Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. - Strong attention to detail, with good oral and written communication skills. - Proven experience supporting Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 databases is a plus.
