Title: Software Engineer II, Fulfillment Location: San Francisco, California, United States Hybrid Category: Engineering Job Description: Taskrabbit is a marketplace platform that conveniently connects people with Taskers to handle everyday home to-do’s, such as furniture assembly, handyman work, moving help, and much more. At Taskrabbit, we want to transform lives one task at a time. As a company we celebrate innovation, inclusion and hard work. Our culture is collaborative, pragmatic, and fast-paced. We’re looking for talented, entrepreneurially minded and data-driven people who also have a passion for helping people do what they love. Together with IKEA, we’re creating more opportunities for people to earn a consistent, meaningful income on their own terms by building lasting relationships with clients in communities around the world. Taskrabbit is a hybrid company with employees distributed across the US and EU and a Built In — Best Places to Work (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) continually ranked across multiple national and regional categories. Join us at Taskrabbit, where your work will be meaningful, your ideas valued, and your potential unleashed! This role operates on a hybrid schedule requiring two days of in-office collaboration per week. The position must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area. About the Role We're hiring multiple Software Engineer II's across our Fulfillment organization — the backend systems that get the right job to the right Tasker and see it through to completion. You'll join one of two teams, matched to your strengths through a single interview process: - Point to Point Fulfillment — a brand-new team modernizing one of the most operationally demanding parts of our marketplace: retiring an aging legacy platform, rebuilding its capabilities on modern infrastructure, and migrating live customer and partner traffic onto the new system. - Fulfillment Lifecycle — the team that decides how jobs are matched to Taskers for our partner and marketplace business, increasingly using structured and unstructured data (profiles, reviews, job history) and experimentation to make matching smarter and fulfillment more reliable. Both team work inside a company-wide platform modernization effort, breaking a legacy monolith into well-bounded, API-first services. The common thread we're hiring for is a strong backend engineer who thrives on complex, data-intensive problems, is comfortable with ambiguity, and takes pride in well-tested, observable, production-ready code. What You'll Work On - Build and evolve the backend services that power how Taskrabbit fulfills jobs — from matching the right Tasker to a job, to modernizing the systems that move work through our platform. - Depending on your team: help retire a legacy system and migrate live traffic onto a modern platform, or improve how we match and rank Taskers for partner and marketplace jobs. - Work with data at the core of the problem — safe migrations of millions of records on one team; structured and unstructured signals feeding matching and ranking on the other. - Decompose legacy components into independent, API-first domain services as part of our platform modernization. - Build and consume well-designed APIs, and interface cleanly with adjacent systems and models (e.g., recommendation and ranking models owned by our ML team). - Use AI coding agents and modern developer tooling to ramp on unfamiliar code, write tests, and ship faster. - Own your work end-to-end: design docs, code reviews, testing, observability, and a share of the on-call rotation. Your Areas Of Expertise - 2+ years building and operating backend services in production, in one or more modern languages (across Fulfillment we use Node.js/TypeScript, Ruby, Python, Java, and Go). - A solid grasp of databases — relational (e.g., PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB) — and the ability to model and query data well. - Experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs in a service-oriented or microservices environment. - Strong problem-solving in complex, ambiguous systems — breaking big problems down and shipping incrementally. - A testing and debugging habit, with genuine care for reliability and observability in production. - Helpful to have one or more of: system migration / re-platforming, payments or other correctness-critical flows, search / ranking / relevance, working with structured and unstructured data, or experimentation (A/B testing). - Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS), CI/CD, and AI-assisted development tools. Compensation & Benefits: At Taskrabbit, our approach to compensation is designed to be competitive, transparent, and equitable. Total compensation consists of base pay + bonus + benefits + perks. The base pay range for this position is $106,000 - $142,000. This range is representative of base pay only, and does not include any other total cash compensation amounts, such as company bonus or benefits. Final offer amounts may vary from the amounts listed above and will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, geography, and level. You’ll love working here because: - Taskrabbit is a Hybrid Company. We value flexibility and choice but also stay committed to regular in-person connection. - The People. You will be surrounded by some of the most talented, supportive, smart, and kind leaders and teams -- people you can be proud to work with! - The Diverse Culture. We believe that we make better decisions when our workforce reflects the diversity of the communities in which we operate. Women make up half of our leadership team and our diversity representation is above that of the tech industry average. - The Perks. We offer all of our global employees generous and flexible time off with 2 company-wide closure weeks, Taskrabbit product stipends, wellness + productivity + education stipends, IKEA discounts, reproductive health support, and more. Benefits vary by country of employment. Taskrabbit’s commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: An Active Commitment to Equity within our Company and Platform. We are an inclusive community where all who share our mission and values belong. Our diverse team represents the communities we serve, breaking down systemic barriers, and transforming lives- one action at a time.
