Role Description Lead Mission‑Critical Network Modernization for the U.S. Space Force as a Senior Network Engineer! Step into a high‑impact engineering role where your expertise shapes the backbone of U.S. Space Force network operations—both CONUS and OCONUS. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will architect, implement, and secure advanced network solutions across diverse, mission‑critical environments. You’ll lead onsite surveys, drive secure design development, oversee deployment execution, and ensure resilient, high‑availability connectivity that meets demanding SLAs. Responsibilities - Network Architecture & Design: - Develop end‑to‑end network architectures for wired, wireless, and mobile broadband platforms. - Produce topology diagrams, design packages, and technical artifacts that meet or exceed connectivity, availability, reliability, and security SLAs. - Lead the creation of preliminary and final SPRIP documentation. - Site Surveys & Assessments: - Conduct comprehensive site surveys to evaluate infrastructure, environmental factors, and mission constraints. - Identify optimal hardware, software, and configuration strategies for modernization efforts. - Deployment Leadership: - Direct installation activities while ensuring compliance with safety standards and base operating requirements. - Oversee configuration, turn‑up, and cutover events in coordination with base Communications Squadrons and cybersecurity teams. - Ensure installed systems meet STIG requirements and align with all applicable DAF policies. - Routing, Security & Network Management: - Design and implement routing policies using BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP. - Develop secure network, system, and application architectures. - Create cyber artifacts including diagrams, hardware/software lists, STIG checklists, PPS matrices, and POA&Ms. - Implement and support SNMP, SYSLOG, orchestration, and related network‑management solutions. - Operational Handover & Support: - Deliver Over‑the‑Shoulder Training (OST) to O&M teams post‑deployment. - Assist with troubleshooting and issue resolution after system cutover. - Prepare or contribute to program deliverables and performance metrics. Qualifications - Required: - Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline and at least 7 years of experience; OR High school diploma or associate degree plus 9+ years supporting large, complex networks. - Technical Requirements: - Extensive experience across wired, wireless, and mobile broadband solutions. - Proven leadership in developing network designs, policies, and upgrade plans. - Hands‑on experience implementing routing technologies (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP). - Experience creating cyber and compliance artifacts (STIGs, POA&Ms, PPS, data flows). - Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to resolve complex hardware/software/network issues. - Clearance: Secret eligible at minimum. - Desired: - Tools & Software: Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio) and AutoCAD. - Certifications: CCNP or equivalent; CompTIA Security+ (or higher). - Professional Skills: Strong communication skills and proven ability to collaborate effectively with customers, engineers, and cross‑functional teams. • Architect, implement, and optimize enterprise WLAN solutions including site surveys (passive/active/predictive) • Design and support broader network infrastructures (LAN, WAN, SD-WAN) • Diagnose and resolve complex wireless issues including RF interference, roaming problems, coverage gaps, and client connectivity • Lead client-facing engagements, delivering wireless assessments, RF reports, heatmaps, and project presentations • Drive wireless network and security projects in collaboration with global teams and vendors, ensuring successful delivery in mission-critical environments
• Manage, troubleshoot, and optimize a range of network technologies, including Cisco and Nexus switches, Meraki, Palo Alto, and Check Point firewalls, physical and virtual F5 load balancers, and Cisco SAN switches. • Ensure network reliability, security, and performance while contributing to documentation and process improvement initiatives. • Quickly assess and resolve network-related incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence. • Perform firmware updates, patches, and upgrades across all network devices. • Monitor network health and performance, identifying and addressing potential issues proactively. • Create and maintain detailed documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical diagrams. • Provide timely updates and clear communication to stakeholders during incidents and maintenance activities. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of network services. • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 network support when needed.
• Generate, review, redline, and revise technical network documents including design documents, systems engineering plans, and program deliverables. • Validate network designs against requirements, standards, and industry best practices. • Conduct rigorous quality assurance reviews for network modernization and refresh projects. • Collaborate with network engineers and architects to ensure documentation reflects actual configurations, baselines, and system behaviors. • Review and validate network configuration templates, implementation plans, and engineering specifications. • Assess and document network infrastructure requirements for new and existing systems in complex DoD environments. • Ensure full compliance with DoD standards, customer-specific documentation regulations, and program requirements. • Maintain configuration management standards and documentation records. • Create and update SOPs, TTPs, and technical knowledge articles. • Prepare technical documentation packages in response to engineering data calls. • Review security-related documentation such as patch plans, IAVA compliance reports, and vulnerability assessments. • Validate accuracy of network diagrams, topology maps, and infrastructure inventories. • Participate in design reviews, offering technical insights to strengthen network architectures. • Support program management teams with documentation for deliverable reviews and customer briefings. • Mentor junior engineers on quality assurance best practices and documentation standards. • Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high accountability and attention to detail.
