Role Description We are seeking a Tech Designer to join our team. Technical Designers are responsible for implementing and maintaining the technical framework and guidelines for gameplay systems across the game, working as a bridge between technical and creative departments to aid with robust and reusable content. The technical design department provides building blocks needed by all other departments within the studio, to allow them to effectively create advanced gameplay. What we will do together: - Collaborate with all the different disciplines to determine the best methods to realize the shared vision for the game. - Champion and uphold the creation of technical workflows and production pipelines. - Act as a technical expert on the team and ensure the team has the highest quality tools, documents, and best practices. - Obtain in-depth knowledge of the engine, its capabilities, and auxiliary development tools. - Uphold good system architecture across the department, including reuse and optimization. - Be an advocate for the technical design team in interactions with all departments. Qualifications - Ability to work cross-discipline and provide constructive and easy-to-understand feedback to any team member. - Excellent technical scripting skills, ideally in visual and text-based scripting. - Self-motivated towards solving creative problems and technical challenges. - Ability to analyze and deconstruct the work of others. - Good knowledge of game and level design principles. - Clear and concise communication. - Ability to work autonomously. Requirements - Good knowledge of programming languages such as C++. - Understanding of optimization and technical limitations. - Knowledge of network replication and limitations. What We Are Looking For Gearbox Studio Québec is seeking a passionate and collaborative Senior Level Designer (Encounters) who lives and breathes action games, specifically shooters. The ideal candidate possesses an intuitive understanding of the pacing, flow, and core mechanics that define great action experiences. You thrive in a role that sits close to game design, eagerly collaborating and iterating alongside Game Designers to elevate the overall project. We are looking for someone who desires a broad scope of work, going well beyond basic arena layouts and enemy placements to actively shape and enhance the game's design. Additionally, you are functionally bilingual in French and English and are available for a hybrid work schedule, spending at least two days a week on-site at our studio. Responsibilities - Define, in collaboration with Game and Level Designers, the metrics and standards for combat arenas to best showcase combat mechanics and enemies. - Identify and fine-tune the design parameters that dictate combat pacing, flow, and progression. - Design and build high-quality combat arenas in-engine to serve as benchmarks for the rest of the game. - Experiment with mechanics and enemy compositions to identify the best synergies and blind spots, while actively iterating with the Game Design team. - Take ownership of the design and creation of levels during the production phase, applying the established standards. - Document best practices for arena design and share them with the team to elevate overall quality.
