• Get oriented fast: Build a strong working understanding of Clutch's lending products, the borrower and operator journeys, and the compliance and legacy-system realities they sit inside, quickly enough to start contributing. • Build relationships and credibility: Establish yourself with the product managers, engineers, and credit union partners you'll work with, and start earning trust as a design leader on the team. • Get hands-on with AI: Ramp on Clutch's AI design tooling and practices, using AI to prototype and explore from week one. • Own a significant area end to end: Take a large, loosely-defined design project from discovery through delivery, defining the problem and scoping the work yourself. • Design & ship real flows: Lead design on a substantial piece of the loan-application experience, reducing friction for borrowers and operators alike. • Build, not just mock: Use AI to create working prototypes, and ship simpler production changes yourself in partnership with engineering. • Drive clarity through research: Run interviews, concept tests, and usability sessions to validate your decisions, and bring the insights back to your partners. • Think in systems: Map full workflows (handoffs, compliance touchpoints, edge cases) and design reusable, scalable patterns rather than one-off screens. • Own a critical, high-stakes workflow: Lead design end to end for a core part of the lending journey (e.g., intake or decisioning), including the ambiguity and cross-team dependencies that come with it. • Shape direction, not just execution: Bring research and data into roadmap and prioritization conversations, influencing what the team builds and why. • Raise the bar on team craft: Drive design critique, share what you're learning about AI-assisted workflows, and help improve process and documentation across the team. • Collaborate with judgment: Partner closely with PMs and engineers as a true thought partner, knowing when to run independently and when to bring partners in to turn user and business needs into production-ready designs.

Role Description Join BILL as a Lead Product Designer to help shape the financial tools that thousands of businesses and accounting professionals rely on every day. This role contributes to the end-to-end design of products across BILL's platform, helping create experiences that simplify financial operations and reduce complexity for our customers. You'll work at the intersection of financial workflows and user experience, partnering with product, engineering, and research to build software that genuinely improves how businesses manage and move money. In this role, you'll take ownership of complex, ambiguous design problems across key areas of the BILL product ecosystem, driving work from early discovery through polished production. You'll set a high bar for craft and systems thinking, bringing your perspective to product strategy conversations as well as hands-on design execution. Your work will reach hundreds of thousands of small businesses, accounting firms, and finance professionals, helping them operate more efficiently, move faster with confidence, and spend less time on manual financial tasks. Responsibilities - Own design strategy and execution for one or more product areas, leading work from discovery through delivery with a high degree of autonomy. - Drive cross-functional alignment by partnering closely with product managers, engineers, UX researchers, and technical partners to frame problems, validate solutions, and ship high-quality experiences. - Elevate the design quality bar across your area by establishing strong patterns, contributing to the design system, and leading critique conversations that push thinking forward. - Facilitate structured workshops and design reviews with stakeholders, translating complex workflows into clear, testable concepts. - Help shape AI-powered and automation-assisted experiences by designing thoughtful interaction models, human-in-the-loop workflows, and clear system behaviors that build user trust. - Use qualitative and quantitative signals, including usability sessions, analytics, customer feedback, and product outcomes, to continuously refine experiences post-launch. - Contribute to team culture and craft by mentoring junior and mid-level designers, sharing your process openly, and helping the broader design organization grow. - Represent the design perspective in product planning cycles, helping to shape roadmaps and scope trade-offs in partnership with senior leadership. Qualifications - 8 or more years of product design experience, with a portfolio that demonstrates systems thinking and the ability to navigate complex, data-driven workflows. - Deep experience owning large design scopes end-to-end, from problem framing and research synthesis through interaction design and handoff. - A track record of influencing product strategy, not just executing on it, including experience shaping roadmaps and contributing to product decisions. - Strong communication skills and the ability to present design rationale clearly to cross-functional partners and senior stakeholders. - Experience designing for B2B or fintech products, particularly ones involving financial data, multi-step workflows, or professional end-users. - Experience designing AI-powered product experiences, such as intelligent assistants, recommendations, automations, or decision-support tools. - Familiarity with emerging AI product design patterns, including prompt-driven interactions, feedback loops, confidence or uncertainty communication, and mechanisms for user control and oversight. - Comfort working in front-end code, prototyping environments, or AI-enabled workflows to accelerate design exploration and strengthen collaboration with engineering.
